Wow. I had Heavy Vinyl sitting on my to-read list for a long time, and I can't remember if I even knew it was sapphic or not? I respect the way this book has taken on gender relations, actually. It's no 300 page thesis that hurts your head (thank god) but it really does say, "Hmm. Patriarchal bullshit. Girlhood. The narrow and uncomfortable confines of boyhood as moderated by both boys and their spectators. Let's just throw the spell of Trans Your Gender in there and watch everything blow up."

You know as a kid a little daydream I had often was, "What if I could somehow travel to my own made-up fantasy land and it'd be so cool because I made all the maps so I know where everything is and why, and I'd know all the characters and their backstories and for the ones I hadn't figured out yet, I could just ask them." Another reason I wanted every setting to be nice. Cool to read a story that actually does this.

You know what I respect a story that says to hell with it, I'm not making this transition last any longer than it needs to, let's move to an entirely different magical universe in 1 page.

Oh no, not an emotionally constipated protag with a much more emotionally competent & interested partner! Sure hope there isn't growth here that either ends sweetly or in bittersweet tragedy.
