DFW doesn't have any written reviews from me, mainly because I read him in my early 20's. Now that I am almost twice as old, will it still resonate?

I've decided August is reread month and I was oddly silent in my previous review on this one.

the way Humphrey is oogling the captain with his shirt off makes me think this book is gonna go down a very different path than I expected

I'm not wholly ignorant of Russian history, but a good portion of this deals with the character of Russian people, what that means and how it's changing with the times. It is so well written that it transcends the era it was made for, but so many names get dropped that leave me shaking my head. I alreay have to translate the french bon-mots, please don't make me wikipedia stuff as well.

it almost feels wrong to try to cram this into my head as fast as I can so I'm gonna leave this here and read it at my leisure

wow this one so far is an unexpectedly ghoulish plague era fever dream

the american south is definitely willeford's element

I don't know what came first, Lonesome Dove or this but the characters are drawn up largely the same but more fucked in different ways

I forgot how much gore, shit and vomit are in this book

is this a self help book or a religious manifesto? I dunno you tell me. I think I'll read Endchiridion and give the whole thing a review

instead of reading books about people committing crimes, I'm skipping over the line and trying one about solving a crime instead.
