I was not expecting this. Holy shit. All I can say for now.

Rampant sexual perversion + a general distaste for humanity + a sense of humor = Tampa. Nutting is absolutely a madwoman.

Oh boy this one is becoming a slog and a chore I frequently become distracted while reading it. It's the same story, the same tone, the same style throughout much of it. Some of the stories are Ligotti LARPing as Poe or Cthulu man. Sometimes interesting ideas begin to surface, a sense of humor discerned but it fades rather quickly like brief rainbows forming under sullen grey skies.

slow going in the beginning, the writing style is kind of obtuse. Really started enjoying myself as the stories progressed, especially the nice twisty one about how to write a horror story turning into an actual horror story.

Okay I am getting very serious David Foster Wallace vibes

This is pretty darn good so far, some biting criticisms still relevant to today, and the typical dry british insights that flash anger in me then actually cause me to be introspective. usually anything that makes me introspective especially in between scenes of ogling a young woman's breasts is in my opinion a benchmark of good literature

Easy to comprehend what the authors are saying but some of the jokes are terrible, like a professor who has delivered the same speech over and over again and even he hates delivering the punchline.

onto book #2 and we get to spend some time with Margarita, who gets a fancy cream which turns her into a witch and that's cool. She starts flying around and shit then turns up at this drab ass apartment and gets a lesson on metaphysics by the devil. Then she has to stand up for hella long as a parade of infamous dead people stream past her and kiss her feet. Then the giant cat turns the champagne fountain into cognac

Okay, finally getting to the really wild stuff now. Everyone is ending up in the sanitarium, people keep getting teleported, singing songs against their will, and of course worse of all having foreign money. Plus there is a famous police dog named Ace of Diamonds. I don't think I've ever been this flat out entertained by a Russian author before, and this book has completely defied the meager expectations going in.

if you've ever watched the ridiculously awful show on scifi called Blood Drive then I think you know what I mean when they stole the idea for the MC from this books depiction of the Foreign Professor. I found the Jesus part well written, but curious as to where the novel is going from here
