Oh Oh wow, started reading this last night after work and I think I know what I am doing with my afternoon off

High-Rise so far has very much gotten its hooks in me, it's really starting to kick up the tension among the social "castes" dwelling in the building. This one will kind of be judged on how off the wall it gets...I am expecting mucha locura

I am finding myself more and more drawn in, Mr Wolfe has a way of being just murky enough in his mythology that keeps me hanging on

I see what Mr Wolfe is trying to do, using anachronistic words and structures etc to stand in contrast that this world might in fact being Earth in the future, but it's kind of annoying

heck I knew women had no souls back in eighth grade. Once again, it saddens me that I came to discover this book at this time, it could've helped out the younger me navigate relationships that were clouded by emotion but now painfully crystal clear

The first part- with the obsession over physiognomy and off the mark predictions along with the whole male-femaleness spectrum is interesting as it is outdated. The second half really kicks off the fireworks where Mr. Weininger lets forth a couple of devastating sallies, including that women lie naturally without knowing why, have no imagination, and wrongly pursue emasculation. Is it wrong to say I don't disagree?

It's gonna come down to the wire on this one. How nicely can Perec tie up this sprawling mess certainly going to be a feat. While I love the individual stories both real and fictional, the feeling that I am reading Winesburg, Ohio written by a 70s French cokehead with encyclopedic knowledge is ever present and quite a distraction. the theme and the narration are one and the same here, which still deserves some credit

I didn't grow up with Carl Sagan, so I am interested in what he has to say. Basically I am getting this is a distinctly anti - pseudoscience book and arguing for the promotion of by-the-book scientific thought. Ok, I am cool with that but can he make it interesting?

thought I would love this, but I'm not feeling it. Gonna stick it out, as it is organized chronologically and the stories themselves are improving (at the sake of the prose, oddly enough) but it's hard to recommend this as of now
