wanna see all the words I had to pause to look up so far? longueurs - oneiric (heard it before, needed clarification)- coterie - fustian - didacticism - picaresque (I should've known that one) - anent - puissant - cavil - winsome (I thought it meant lonely, but apparently not, it means appealing) - lubricity - cynosure.

you're welcome

now it done gone to far, this here boooooooook for all those *learned* types wot with their "maximalism", big old, old words ain't nobody wit two cents in their head knows best not to be usin in polite company lest others think they was stickin their nose right at god's kingdom at them. this may fly for the no-nothings who would shriek if their hands so much as grazed the handle to take up good honest work. deviltry

any book that quotes The Third Policeman, includes De Selby's theory in passing, and satirizes "Pale Fire" AND includes a multi page list of fake books, authors and magazines is definitely something I'd be into

hmm I think I've read this before (which would explain why it was towards the back of my kindle's carousel) but I didn't remember much about it, and I'm not really feeling it this time around either. at least it's short and the ending may surprise me again?

witty in that deadpan kind of way. I, too, also happen to sound like a trumpet when I blow my nose, so I feel affinity with Chichikov.
Two sidenotes: one I hate over indulgent introductions, especially ones that seem to be more enriching to read *after* one has read the work. two I hate the word "mezzanine" I don't know what the fuck a mezzanine is, and I can never picture it in my mind, it doesn't make sense to me

Straightforward historical fiction, nothing too special really so far, but a good potpourri none the less

Revisiting the first Gaddis' novel I ever read. I only remember that the wife finds a pornographic picture in her mailbox one day. So this will be interesting.
After that, I will tackle The Sot-Weed Factor, which looks to be just a a lot of reading. Time to bust out the eye drops

since it's midway through the year I am going to go re-read some books from last year to see how they are doing. I'll start with this then probably The New York Trilogy then maybe Carpenter's Gothic (which wasn't from last year been longer than that but been itching to re-read it and review it proper here for my own posterity)

Part one finished, and I am surprised and impressed with this work so far in that it is not what I thought it was going to be like at all. It's strictly a conservative playbook but one that appeals to spirituality and ontology drawing heavily on a blend of eastern and western texts and myths to back up his views. Even as I questioned what I was reading, Evola somehow sensed it and provided answers. Provocative.

I understand this is a novel set in late 50's early 60's Paris but the jazz and blues worship has got to stop. It's so distracting it derailed my enjoyment enough to stop reading and come here and type this to cool down. Not a good sign moving forward...

sure it starts of innocently enough you watch a Ted-X video about a guy advocating drug usage for creativity and you're like, "hmm what else is this guy about" and then you realize he's one of those guys who come up with wild theories and there has been this lingering urge to look into the anti-academic literature out there but your hearts not really into it and you don't read it and it's making you feel guilty

A different spin on the whole Mephistopheles tale where instead of one night, the protagonist is given a seemingly endless time to wander through a dreamland populated by *mostly* Arthurian / Greek myths. But what makes it stand out is the saucy writing boy howdy
