This gave me howls moving castle vibes and I loved that.I thought her magic reacting with flower to her emotions was pretty cool. I liked this book but I feel like you could tell it was a debut, things just weren’t 100% polished maybe.Like the magic system seemed cool but then was just never really fully explained and then at the end everyone could just do whatever they wanted. Also the lgbt stuff felt kinda clunky

I’m late posting this. But this was a terrible time to reread this and it really made me like it less. Everything about the hospital environment hit too close to home with pa in hospital. And poor Anna Never catching a fucking break just infuriated me. And I just wanted to slap her stupid dad to pull his head out of his arse. Rory was still wonderful and Anna is great but I’m way to angry and stressed for this!

I didn’t like her lying to Adrian. The horror element wasn’t crazy considering it won awards for that. The ending was just nuts and the parents were straight up insane! But it almost felt like there were just heaps of wild twists just for the sake of having twists though, like kid secretly being a girl. And I didn’t love the narrator style epilogue it felt lazy and rushed. The illustrations were kinda cool though

This wasn’t great. It was basically just 400 pages of people gaslighting the crap out of Mallery. I felt really bad for her as a recovering drug addict, that because of that she had no credibility. It was also uncomfortable to read at times because you really didn’t want her to get in trouble and lose her job but at the same time you were like just get the hell out of that house man!

Plus the added element of Evans concussion and him having to work around it adds even more stakes than usual. I feel like up until now you feel pretty confident that Evan will always come out on top but I remember reading this one for the first time and all the stress of thinking Evan had a real chance of dying, & from something that seems so human. It definitely adds extra tension to the story. One of my favourites!

This one is so good! I still stand by my opinion that this could’ve been the last one, it feels like a conclusion until the last chapter. I’m glad there’s more but this still holds up. This has got some great bits in it, X & Joey continuing to strengthen their relationship, Evan staying friends with the special man from 4, getting dog, the impossible mission and the bonkers ending with Mia.

I liked the whole gang being there, with V and the gun guy Tommy. V and X interacting is always fun. I liked the call back to the guy from the last one being Evans friend. And Evan with the family that he was helping was really nice too. Plus the usual badassery! Not a lot of Mia and Peter though. Not sure how I feel about him maybe finding his dad. But this was great! Changed my mind, it’s 5 stars

4.5 I enjoyed this one quite a lot! I feel like this was a turning point for Evan in deciding that he actually can lean on others, and also that he wants to .I really enjoyed the interactions between X and agent Templeton, the respect that they had for each other. I liked that Evan still did things on his terms. I enjoy his relationship with Joey more & more as it goes on & they were quite sweet in this one.

This book was nuts! It was so good! The slow build mystery kept me intrigued the whole way thorough and the last 100 pages or so we’re just absolutely crazy! I really loved the characters, especially Travis, Theo and Calla. The unsettling and unsafe cult vibe of the community was written really well and the writing style overall was really cool. The beginning and end in particular were so so good. Loved this book!

I like how the three of them each have a little piece of the mystery of Travis. Calla has surprised me with the bravery she is starting to show, she’s starting to take risks to test the rules and help people. Theo is driven by the mystery and curiosity but even he is still wary of the illness. Bee is just a bit broken in this last little bit, hopefully she has a bigger role soon.

I do like that his disappearance has set up the mystery and conflict for the rest of the story though. The 3 leads are kinda intriguing in their attitudes towards the cultish beliefs of the community. I like Theo and Bee the best so far, Theo’s curiosity of the outside world is interesting and Bee being blind makes her POV cool. I think Calla will ultimately chose the community which could be sad.

I absolutely loved the first section of this book with Travis! I honestly would’ve loved if the whole book was about him but oh well. I think the author did an amazing job of making a super interesting and fleshed out character in only the first 50 pages. I thought that his ability of getting ‘echos’ off object was cool as hell and described in a really intriguing way.

I feel like the moon magic element was kinda a little unnecessary with so much else going on but I did like it towards the end once we got a little more explanation and I think it’ll be the main focus of the second one. Wasn’t a huge fan of her family but they got better. The ending was fairly nuts with so many redirects about the killer but it kept me questioning my guesses. Overall I liked it quite a bit.

The motivations for Cat to get involved in the case felt grounded which I liked, she wasn’t just there because of main character energy. The attitude towards ‘madness’ at the time was a cool element and I liked that Simon was ahead of his time in his profiling ability but that it wasn’t supernatural, just smarts. I really liked the relationship between Simon and Cat, and look forward to it continuing in #2.

This was pretty groovy, I really liked the setting and the characters all felt very fleshed out. I liked Cat’s job and learning about the architecture at the time and how they built the sanctum, I just think that was neat and felt like the author cared and did their homework. It very much had a Jack the Ripper vibe. And the case was pretty cool, although the heroes did let the body count get pretty darn high.

I’m honestly not a huge fan of the moon people stuff or her bossy new family that comes with it after abandoning her her whole life 🙄 also the fantasy element just feels a little disconnected, I feel like their was enough going on already with the historical setting and the murder mystery that the moon stuff seems unnecessary but oh well I guess 🤷🏻‍♀️

Having an actual reason (that kids were more sensitive to ghosts) for the characters being young was cool, rather than having a kaz situation where he’s actually 30 not 17. The characters were great and their group dynamic was pretty sweet too. Lockwood was definitely my favourite, I liked how charismatic he was while bullshiting about 99% of the time. Very fun read.
