A very good read, although I feel like this could be a stand alone rather than a series as I feel like his character arc was kinda resolved as he came to peace with his past and that town. I thought it was interesting that he was a federal agent in the financial division rather than a shoot ‘em up badass cop as well. I’d check out the other books, it was very good.

He was relatively soft spoken and solid which is different to other detective stories. It was pretty sad how much he was ruined by what happened to Ellie though and that he had to leave and grew apart with everyone. I liked that the deputy working with him was super competent which isn’t always the case. Lots of twists as we got more info, and the ending was very good. The final confrontation gave me goosebumps!

A recommendation from Grace from work. Really sweet she gave me her copy because she was excited for me to read it. I don’t normally love Australian fiction but this was really good. I liked the writing quite a bit, I liked how it flicked between the past and the present with the two seperate cases. I thought Arron was an interesting character, he wasn’t a hard badass necessarily which I liked.

I really want to like this book, but so far it just makes me irrationally angry. I feel like I’m reading caraval all over again. The whole premise of picking of the ‘weak’ is really pissing me off. Why bother having these ‘training’ weeks at all, they don’t teach them fuck all! Just chuck them out in front of the dragons on day one and be done with it!Also what they’ve never had a short rider before🙄

To other characters such as orphan x who was trained in a program or ex military ect. Jones really just forged himself into this person so that he couldn’t be used again. The parallels of 17 and 16 were cool, they’re on the same path just at different points. The action was really fast paced and fun, and pretty intense without being too yucky. Kat annoyed me a bit but she wasn’t in too much of it. A fun read!

4.5 I really enjoyed this, it was very fast paced and punchy and fun to read. Lots of the reviews said it was cinematic and I definitely get that, when I found out the author writes for movies and tv that made so much sense. The chapters are really short so every chapter has a snappy end sentence which I liked. 17 was cool, I really liked his character, I liked that he was a self made man which was a bit different..

A quick and quirky skulduggery novella. This was alright, the usual nonsense banter that makes me laugh, skulduggery trying to interact with normal people after so long was pretty funny. And the new character was cool. A fun quick read.

Just as good the 2nd time round! Definitely some parts I’d forgotten too so that was fun. Kaz is the best! I just find him such an interesting antihero. I love that they’re all antihero’s really. There was a lot more about Nina and Matthias than I remembered and it’s honestly so bittersweet. All of the crows are great and I love all their povs. And we love an impossibly thought out plan. 10/10

I was really excited by the idea of a prequel but that’s not quite what this was. Having it be mostly ghastlys pov was cool and the history setting of the dead men was pretty awesome, them all using swords is badass. Skulduggery was super sad though and it was bittersweet seeing some of these characters when you know that skulduggery goes evil. The whole time travel bit with Valkyrie was random but it was still fun

I was really enjoying seeing the dead men in early days, and it being from ghastly’s perspective is cool. Really bittersweet though knowing that skulduggery is gonna go evil soon. Valkyrie time travelling from the future is weird turn for sure but to be honest not the weirdest thing to happen in this series so I’ll roll with it

I liked Xavier and Clara but I feel like some of their romance happened off screen and I’d have liked to see it. The council could fuck right off though, Xavier got massively screwed over and I hated that not gonna lie. I liked her dad though he was sweet. This book was alright, I liked it. A bit of fun and pretty settings, the ending felt a little rushed though.
