Look I get that Severin is on everyone’s shit list but I really hope they all get over it soon because it’s not fun to read about at all🤦🏻‍♀️ The part I liked most about this series is the team dynamic but in this one they’re just a mess and all so pissy with one another.

Out of it. I feel like this definitely could have done with an another edit. I think if this was maybe 100 pages shorter I would have given it a higher rating. It was sweet and quirky and I did like Fin but just a bit too long winded for me.

One by the time I got to the end. We saw every. Single. Day. And nothing happened! I guess we don’t care about the coming war because no character seems even remotely phased. The king frustrated me a lot, he was such a taker, poor fin. Lady jenor was ok but I feel like she could just do everything without very actually telling us why she was such a badass. I found some of the humour very juvenile too which took me

I thought this was sweet and I really enjoyed the first half of this book. I liked Fin and found his magic quite interesting that it wasn’t necessarily badass combative magic but rather magic to help make a safe home. Him and the little prince Eric was probably my favourite bit of the whole story, such a sweet little friendship. This book was entirely too long though! I’d definitely lost my momentum with this

There was still some good stuff though. Poe and Tilly are still great and them coming to the rescue was very badass. I like the dynamic between Poe and Estelle too, would like to see more of that. I hope that the series doesn’t go downhill from here, but this is definitely going to come back to bite him in the ass later.

The target being their boss was so stupid! Her even being there 8 months pregnant was ridiculous anyway! And I’m sorry was this unbelievably complicated series of events the only way the killer could get to her?! He’d have to be bloody clairvoyant just to set it up. So dumb. And her sister was just completely psychotic apparently. Not gonna lie Poe letting her call at the end has really changed how I see him.

I’m so disappointed in how this one ended, really changed how much I liked it overall. I feel like this could have been a very intense read with a really cool creepy baddy but it just fell a bit flat. Other than the murders at the very beginning the investigation was pretty slow considering who they thought they were chasing there was no real urgency. And the ending was so stupid it ruined it. One twist too many!

I feel like there was a lot more of Enrique and Zofia in this one because there was a lot more of the history and math stuff which is obviously their wheelhouse, but I wish there had been more Laila and Severin because they’re my favourites. The writing and magic is still very cool though. Didn’t love how it ended but keen to see how it all wraps up in the next one.

I feel like I followed the plot better in this one but there were still bits that I’m kinda unsure of. I liked that this one showed that there actually were repercussions from what happened at the end of the first one but it was sad to see the characters sad less close knit. Also I hate secrets. And I feel like someone should just give poor Severin a hug for crying out loud.

Nice to see a bit more of Poe’s character beyond the cop too, like a little of his non existent love life. Some cool new characters introduced too, like the forensics coroner. Keen to read more!

(hence the puppet show) but this one showed of their investigative skills a bit more. Having a countdown to when you know he’d be arrested was really cool, along with when the baddie would be released and the storm coming really added a building dread and sense of urgency to everything. Loved to see Poe and Tilly’s friendship progress, that’s definitely my favourite part of the books.

I really love these characters. This case was tricky, I liked that it was an old case coming back to haunt Poe, that we were able to see the steps and results of the old case while unravelling the new one. The psycho chef was a very creepy bad guy. I liked that we got to see more of them running down leads and investigating, I feel like in the first one they really were just following where the killer wanted them…
