A break in case of emergency book. I really don’t have that much interest in this book but it’s the only Kleypas HR book written post 2000 I haven’t read. It’s been that kind of week 😮‍💨

I saw someone else say this but man this book is going slow 🥱

I just bought Julie Anne Long’s latest Palace Rogues book and am going through the previous book in the series. Look at this gorgeous writing:

“The line of her fine jaw and the slope of her throat, and the way her skin took the light like a pearl, suddenly struck him as almost insufferably lovely. It made him feel fleetingly restless, as if someone had dragged a hand over his fur backward.”

Really struggling with this book. I’m so…bored.

If MJW has one narration weakness, that’s doing a Boston accent, and Caleb is from Boston 😪

This is a new to me author and I’m enjoying the writing immensely. Really wish this had a different, less grouchy “come hither” model on the cover though 🤨

Mary Jane Wells 😭

I’m not gonna lie, I find baking stories very tedious. But I’ll do this for Lucy Parker.

This is fun and breezy so far, but the whole book is a whopping 425 pages. 400+ pages? In this economy?

Mary Balogh just makes me feel pangs of emotion.

What a super fun book.

“But he was not praying. He was mad. His insanity had a feel to it, jagged and sharp, so the very air in his bedroom seemed filled with edges.”

The pacing in this book is weird. The book is really short for a full length book — 237 pages — and just 24 pages in, there’s a ton of stuff I feel like I somehow missed and the story is zooming by too quick 🧐

I really love Elizabeth O’Roark and think she’s an underrated contemporary author 😌

“We have been bad, I think,” she murmured into his shirt. “Very bad.” He’d be damned before he agreed to that. He might have been bad, but she had been glorious.

That is GOOD.

This is my second attempt at Kelly Bowen and she wins all these accolades and is generally well reviewed but I’m just super bored. There’s no zing!

This book does one thing I really hate — either the MMC or FMC says/thinks to themselves that they can’t be in a relationship with the other party and they end it……but immediately go and boink a couple of scenes later. If you say you’re gonna do a thing, DO IT!!!!!!

What is the right way to describe a book that is both incredibly horny and SO VERY BEAUTIFUL? ☺️

Dang, Meredith Duran is so good at initial characterization. Lesser authors could make what’s supposed to be a sparkling, lustful instant attraction first scene dull, but hers in chapter 1 are vividly, energetic, and deftly written.

JAL is a fucking master at writing side characters. Even the most peripheral side characters are incredible.
