There really should be more HRs with older ladies and the men who work for them. Just saying.

Just want to say that Jo Goodman's character building work is incredible. Bits and pieces of this book were a little slow for me (ahem, boring), but still, some of the best character work I've read in this genre.

The banter and dialogue in this so far are killing me. Send help.

Lots of stuff happens in this book, and yet it still feels incredibly slow. Why!

I don’t think I’m in the right headspace for a fantasy novel, so the worldbuilding bits are harder for me than they should be 😔

I’ve struggled super hard with this book since the first third. But now I’ve read too much not to finish.

New to me author. Writing is incredible off the bat 👀👀 Have been bored out of mind with my reads this week, please let this be good.

This book is simultaneously so boring and yet I still want to see the characters get together. I’ve felt this way about every single Eloisa James book I’ve read and yet I keep reading them, so it’s my fault really. She writes really great dialogue, so that lends itself to a fairly decent audiobook experience, but then the story is just lacking.

Jenny Holiday is such a comfort read for me 😌 This is my last book of her backlist though 😰

This book has like no plot 😌

The banter between the leads is great, but there is literally so much story revolving around fossils and I ... cannot :P

I read like 10 contemporaries in a row and am now switching back to HR, which feels jarring. I forgot for a second that for a vast majority of HR, stakes are always very, very low. This one seems to have a cozy mystery but after reading CR where the stakes are sexual harassment, defrauding a church, etc, HR is almost a light read.

I like when I read a new book from a new to me author and everything just clicks, and it’s like that scene in the first Harry Potter movie when Harry gets a wand and finds the right one and his hair starts flying and a light starts glowing behind him 🤗

Truly losing my mind at this heroine, in a bad way 🥲

This is a me problem, but I don’t love self-deprecating hot mess heroines that are coded to be approachable and un-intimidating because they’re ~such hot messes~. I read an essay about this kind of female lead ages ago (I think the primary example used in that essay was the Tina Fey brand of heroine), and I’m just over it.

I’m really enjoying this so far — some laugh out loud moments for sure — but some of the setups are SO ridiculous that it feels like self-insert fic 🤔
