Really enjoying this so far. I think this is JAL’s second ever book (at least under this name), and it features some early writer tics and hers is apparently italicizing for emphasis …. a lot. I’ve counted almost a DOZEN on one page 🥴

This was slow going at first but I’m getting into a groove now. Edwin and Robin make a great pair.

All I want to read right now are achingly romantic books that hurt my heart, to get over the book hangover I have from reading Lady Sherlock. Alas, only Sherry Thomas fits this brief and I’m trying to avoid reading more of her backlist lest I run out 😭

This book is so good. Having Sherry Thomas write on sexual, racial, and colonial politics is a FUCKING TREAT, I tell you.

There is a lot of … boat stuff (not a euphemism 😅), but I’m enjoying this immensely. Elizabeth Essex is a really confident writer.
