Finally picking this pack up; started a few weeks ago & was interrupted, plowed through 1/3 of the book this afternoon. Great ideas, here, and well-written.

Ack. One framing sentence here defused all the best tension from the earlier countdown. An interesting choice.

I think I know what the game wants. I hope it doesn't take 100+ more pages (or multiple books!) for the characters to figure it out.

Been listening to this a little at a time for a couple weeks; meant to watch the show, didn't realize I couldn't without *paying* for Hulu, have less urgency to finish the book quickly, now.

Sending this one back to the library unfinished; maybe at a later date?

I love how Mr. Bones forces you to have fond memories tied to Ep.1. Masterful manipulation, Chuck.

Started yesterday; trying to read all the 'Journey to…' novels & comics before we see SW7 next Saturday. Because I'm silly (or crazy).

Off to a bad start already (humans being awful), but glancing at the reviews at least I don't have to worry too much about running into anything truly horrible, like a plot. I'll forge ahead.

Ouch; this is a painful change of character for the book, and would probably have me quit reading if I weren't so close to the end. High-stakes plot-driven intensity; what garbage!

Ugh, here we go again; the inevitable and frustrating appearance of *villain* and rumblings of *plot*. Yuck. Can we just get back to exploring the Long Earth, please, without insane conservatives sticking their noses in and mucking everything up?

Started reading this while waiting in line Friday; just getting back to it today.

Nothing seems to get me started reading a book quite like running out of renewals at the library; this one's due buy the end of the day tomorrow.

I'm going to say it's an editing error; there's no reason for him to be wearing a VR helmet inside the cockpits—the VR simulated the cockpit he's sitting in, and the screens there are real! Argh!

*does some research* …apparently I do have to read those ~40 pages… I have a feeling this is going to be a very exasperating experience.

Wait, really? The title page is 45 pages in? Were those first 40+ pages ads for other works, or prologue? What an incomprehensible mess, before even beginning. :(

Alright, let's give this thing a try…

I cannot comprehend these scheming, thieving, lying, power-hungry idiots. I know there are plenty such people in the real world, and I don't understand them, either—but do we really need a villain, here? Is the situation not dire enough already? So frustrating/disgusting.

Adding a 'dystopia' tag, since [SPOILER] 99.9999%+ of humanity is about to be wiped out. This may be a very difficult read, if only emotionally. The science/tech I grasp easily, the emotional weight less so.

On one hand, it's 2AM & I need sleep. On the other, this book is quite good—and does that thing I don't like where chapter endings aren't good places to stop. I want to keep reading, but... I guess tomorrow.

Gotta get this read before everyone spoils it for me, on account of the movie/trailer.

Every time an author raises the stakes like this, it makes their book a little more awful. …and now maybe we'll crush a bystander, and now maybe the library will fall and crush hundreds, and now maybe we'll kill every living thing in the San Diego area... What terrible writing; what false, empty tension.

I read a good chunk of this on the Grad Trip last week, between the beach day & the bus ride home. It started somewhat interesting, but I can't like the protagonist, I can't stand all the secrets & sneaking around, and the insistence on a standard PPP/thriller plot is disappointing. …but let's see where it goes from here…

In addition to my structural complaints about the novel, "I don't want to live in this world"; the cut-throat PvP & permadeath of OASIS make it a complete non-starter for me—would not log on, zero stars.

I wish I could read a version of this which wasn't so obviously following the "rules" about how to write commercial fiction; interesting ideas forced into all the old, familiar shapes—the setup alone disgusts me.

Didn't get enough reading done at the Film Festival, so I have to pause this here until I can get another copy from the library.

Yuck, that story was exactly wrong for this book, another dystopian vision where the only hopefulness is in fighting back—and the rebels are depicted as losing!

Started this last week, after discovering it & Lock In at the local library. Never read any Scalzi before.

Actually, I quit. Not worth it. I guess it might be good if you wanted to read millions of words to get one book's worth of story. (I just looked up the plots of the next 3 books. Ugh. So not worth it.)

Bored, bored, bored… This book is at least 150k words longer than it needs to be, endlessly clogged up with page after page of "show, don't tell" informed writing—please! Just tell me, already! Get on with it. Ugh!
