Glorian got pregnant from Wulf, a son of the priory. The line of Inysh queens will from now on be partly descended from Cleolind, as they always believed (but now it’s actually true). His mum is also the wife of Esbar, a descendant of Ead. It does not cause Sabran and Ead to be distantly related (at least not by blood) but all those twists still blow my mind!!!

I think the book shows even more how much worse Galian Berethnet was. Not only deceived he everyone that he defeated evil, no he also makes everyone believe that only the survival of his line could keep the bad things away, making sure that his house survives. Pushing for a tradition that enforces countless of people capable of giving birth into pregnancy, they themselves not seen as much as the wombs they carry.

I am so glad I read Priory before picking up the prequel. I feel much more emerged in the world and I can see all the little details which connect the two books. :’)

I absolutely adore Samantha Shannon’s not so subtle criticism on sainthood, revealing that the supposedly chivalric and brave knight only portrayed himself as such, that the woman who only plays an inferior role in the lore is actually the heroine. Man, I love this book.
