I don't know whether this is supposed to be a funny book or a tell-all. All I know is that it is self-aggrandising and downright nasty in places.

A LOT of name-dropping. I didn't know already famous people needed to name-drop too.

Entirely absorbing reading!

Funny!

I can see why this is considered a classic. Prose that reads like poetry, and evocative of all the sensory stimuli of the author's life. Can also see why this book is considered inappropriate for school reading. If I, at 36, found the account of her ordeal scarring, I can only imagine what I would have thought at 15 or 16.

Well. That was depressing to read, albeit informative.

If I wasn't opposed to high fructose corn syrup before reading this book, I am now!

Been wanting to read Michael Pollan for a long time now, and have finally gotten an opportunity to do so. Initially, I was going to start with 'In the Defence of Food', a manageable 250-odd pages. But, on reading the front leaf, I realised that it follows this book, a daunting 700-odd pages.

But I was wrong to fear. I burned through the preface in a matter of minutes. The rest of the book is sure to be absorbing!

Took some getting used to, but interesting now.

Not sure why I am reading this. It is not to my taste.

I read 225 in one sitting. This is such a captivating story!

Not comfortable with all the references to black characters in the book, but striving to remember it was written when racism was commonplace. Still not acceptable though.

Desperately need an upbeat palate cleanser after the last 4 books I have read.

Also, halfway in, the characters are established and so is the setting. Waiting for something to actually occur.

Whew. Intense.

Might as well get all the dystopian literature out of the way at once.
