Very gripping read, although the rapidly shifting viewpoints are disorienting. The writing is fast-paced and tight, so there is no time to breathe before there is more information coming your way.

On the minus side, there is far too much jargon and colloquial languages. Can be unreadable as a result.

Interesting book, and I'm glad I made the effort to start reading. A few points:
- Fantastic research, both with respect to IT and pharma
- Too many characters. I'm already lost.
- Chapters (and viewpoints) change too rapidly
- Could do with explaining some of the jargon for clarity.

Kind of stuck on the part about the birth of her first baby. Her descriptions are so vivid, I felt physically ill.

This is not going for my child phobia.

One of the funniest books I have ever read. The kind of funny that doesn't pall, because it is honest and relatable.

Burned through the first few chapters. Dying to get through the rest.

Stalled. This book needs time for savouring.

Slow reading for me, since each word is savoured for its luxuriance. The setting is lavishly described, and creates lots of interest. The characters are distinct.

I initially didn't realise that there were switching viewpoints, so well into the story I though Black and Elegant Effendi were the same person. D-oh!

The writing is as light as a feather, and I find myself reading entire chapters in what seems like seconds.

The story builds up carefully, although the plot twist seems a little obvious because of the clues liberally sprinkled all over. It isn't explicitly mentioned as yet, but the plot points have become bigger.

Enjoying this book, and to think I picked it up on a whim.

Acerbic wit; sometimes hysterically funny, others serious. A very enjoyable read, in spite of it being several years out of date. A line I particularly enjoyed, when she was discussing Pulp Fiction: ... Quentin Tarantino is talented but also is a mere child..." (May not be an exact quote)

Amazing story of Sikhism's spiritual leaders, however the narrative suffers from a flaw endemic in Indian writing - tangential plotlines. The author starts down one path and zigzags to another, without clearly tracing a connection between the two. Time is similarly fractured and confusing, although it is far better than other books.

On the whole, the content is beautiful, however the editing is mediocre at best.

Riveting. The story within a story within a story structure is slightly hard to follow, as is the family tree. But it feels like a trip inside someone's mind, and I believe that was intentional.

Loving the book. Has all of Amitav Ghosh's considerable talent in spades. It takes a while for the story to kick start, but once it does, one can't stop reading.

Intriguing story, although to soon to say whether I like it yet.

Amitav Ghosh is always awesome though, so I have high expectations.

Starting to sympathise with Will Truesdale now, although I retain my low opinion of Claire. She is so colourless and unlikeable.

Once again the narrative has slowed unbearably. This book is turning out to be a real rollercoaster for pace. I cannot foresee where the author is taking the story, so that suspense keeps me reading. I am tempted to read the end, but I have refrained so far.

I've been reading this book for the longest time, a few pages (sometimes just one) at a time. The narrative was tired and boring initially, until suddenly the war and the Japanese invasion of Hong Kong comes into play.

Right now, Will is in the refugee camp, and Trudy has come to meet him after 3 long weeks. Claire is in the thick of her affair with him, and she doesn't understand this enigmatic character.

The narrative is choppy and moves quickly between perspectives. Not unusual for Jeffrey Archer but his usual style involves smoother transitions.

The story is interesting of course, although one is starting to lose interest in the Barringtons and cliftons. Don Pedro Martinez is a cad, while one wishes Virginia Fenwick ends up a beggar. Also loving Cedric Hardcastle. The character focus has shifted
