idk how it is that i find any kind of pretense or heightened sense of "propriety" infuriating and contemptible irl, but find stuff like this or heian court stuff absolutely delightful. i can't really think what the difference is beyond there being no expectation on me to perform the latter.

Confused by something, thought maybe I had a chapter out of order, so checked on ao3 only to find, no, it's just I accidentally dropped 5 chapters when I was prettying up the file. Oops. So far, liking this a lot more than the thing it's a spin off of.

Chase is the best. I hope he comes back in future, he hasn't been in the most recent books. Other thots: Gabe's references are often more suited to someone twenty years older, but somehow it doesn't come off annoyingly as many other instances I've seen where the writer is writing a much younger character. Third, Gabe's idk answers when cops ask him why he wants to know matches my instincts re problem solving.

id prefer never to hear another word about the decameron, but there are some good parts in here. feels long tho

ok far enough in i think it's gonna stick. been meaning to reread this before the new one, but haven't been able to cope with anything but fluff, so it's taken a bit to get started. have to say i remember almost nothing so far, good call on rereading before nsi
