we're a ways in for it to feel like the characters have yet to intersect with the plot. so far it reads like an extremely extended collection of introductory vignettes from a tv show. (derogatory) there's been plenty of humor, but i hope we get an actual plot soon.

this is funny. I asked myself why I hadn't read any of these in ages and then I remembered it's basically impossible to figure out what order to read them in what with the non-chronological 18 volume trilogy business

Yeah, I normally avoid reading series books or even the same author back to back, but I'm on a limited KU trial and want to get through these, and beats spending time I could be reading trying to decide what to read instead.
