between the anachronisms, the failed humor, the dreary tone, and the whole road trip aspect, i ask myself why have i not dnf'd yet?

This is very different to anything else I've read by Hall so far. The humor is not exactly working for me.

starting with book 3? yeah, so what.

it seems i only pick this up when i'm between other books and can't decide what to read next. it's not that it's bad, just extremely putdownable.

I've been feeling uncommitted to this since i started, but I guess at 35% I should go ahead and put it on currently reading. I don't dislike it, but I feel like the author is focused so much on portraying an autistic experience, it's getting in the way of the story and slowing the pace too much.

the humor feels more theoretical than realized, and the distant pov makes it hard for me to really engage with the characters. and it feels oddly focused on the male pov for an m/f romance, but what do I know. so far less successful than the other Heyer I read.

it's a little preachy, and the writing is too descriptive for my taste, but it's interesting enough so far.

started reading a paperback copy, then found out there's a 2020 revised edition that's on ku so started over with that.

oh, opening the chapter with another character we've never heard of before. brilliant
