It's testament to the harrowing adventure that I'm continuing to read what is ultimately an emotionless paraphrasing of the driest, dullest, captains log ever. Unlike numerous other catastrophic retellings of adventurers lost, Icebound is devoid of dialogue, personality, or any insight into what these individual men were actually like. Barrents may as well been called "Character X" and readers wouldn't notice.
