Dystopian near-future sci-fi with a young female protagonist. Considerable religious questioning and, perhaps discovery of a new faith. Liking what I've read so far.

A quick read about the changes we must make as artists to transition from amateur to pro. Recommended for anyone with a passion they've yet to fully, honestly, dedicate themselves to with the dedication of a professional.

Very excited to see so many people reading "One Lousy Pirate" with their Kindle Prime memberships lately. Proud to have people use their once-per-month borrow on my story. Thank you!

My interest is starting to wane now that Worth has been caught. How exactly can this book continue for another 40%? I hope I'm in for a big surprise.

Curious what's going to occupy the book's second half, as it already feels as if I'm reaching the climax.

Exquisite storytelling about 19th century mastermind criminals. Narrative nonfiction at its finest!

The author hasn't met a simile or metaphor she couldn't find a way to cram into a sentence, but there is an undeniable pace and tone of her writing that I find appealing. The book is virtually absent of dialogue (so far) but brimming with tension and pent-up sexuality as the title character, a 23-year-old woman, struggles against the shackles of her mother's control.

So much exposition and telling (as opposed to showing). Interesting story premise, but the quality of writing is sub-par.

As much as I like this book, the constant describing things by way of comparing them to obscure people is not only not very helpful, but seems like pompous name-dropping.

Just blown away how unlike anything else I've read this book is, though I do find myself constantly flipping back to the sub-headers to see the dates and how old Clare and Henry are in each scene. It can be tricky to keep straight since time is so nonlinear in this book.

Come to realize the title is not so much in reference to the sea-crossing to Brazil, but more about women's journey out from behind the closed doors of their homes in the early 20th century, into that world covered by the London Times, as the protag describes it.

Just finished the 5th fatal flaw: POV errors. Some nice, helpful tips there. I particularly liked the tip about downloading an audio clip for a personality that fits each of your characters and then replaying it to yourself before writing a scene in their POV. Should be helpful. Of course, it could take far too long to find a good example online too.

Still enjoying this a lot, though I do find it difficult to keep all of the characters straight at times.

Van Helsing's on the prowl. A slow, often tedious, and relatively predictable chase is underway!

Enjoying the story enough, but finding it really hard to keep my mind from wandering while reading it. I read plenty of older books, so it's not the 19th century English working against me. It's just a really slow, plodding, plot.

Really enjoying this classic tale of horror, which I never read before. The beginning hook, told by Jonathan Harker's diary entries was riveting, and now I'm into the slow build of the story. Can't wait to see where this goes as I've somehow managed to avoid knowing the tale of Dracula.
