What a complicated mess.

I love these characters: Chava, now Charlotte; Achmad the Jin, and more. The orphan girl and her golem will surely be resolved with Toby.

Homer grieves the death of his daughter. Who murdered her? What is the angle of the new detective who is the murdered woman’s godmother, out to get the abusive husband?

This book is excellent. Whether or not you have read Jane Austen, if you have a passion for fiction, this book will resonate. It brings together a diverse cast of people who are devoted to Austen’s books and her legacy. Through their characters, they mirror some of Austen’s themes of life and relationships. Dr. Gray and Mimi quickly learn lessons, while Evie and Yardley discover common bonds.

I love the characters of Chana the golem and Achmahd the Jin. The voice of George Guidell as narrator never fails.

Tom is heading for heartbreak. It’s already difficult to see him lose Peter, and Peter lose Tom even worse.

What a book. It’s so well-written and concise in the way a wordsmith works. Even the brutality of the narrative is compelling because of the stark detail

Oh my, it’s a gift to hear Delia tell her story in her own voice. What a roller coaster. I’m cheering for her.

Women are subordinated until their rage explodes and they become dragons. This is a speculative fiction title - an alternative fiction title, not fantasy or sci-fi, but a broader label for the genre. It depicts frustration and resentment from those who live diminished by men.

I love this story, based on a Russian folk tale. It’s haunting and vivid, from the brutal killing of animals to the hospitality of neighbors.

I am uncomfortable and thoughtful as I read this excellent book. It brings me back to the collaboration between the two authors, what a meaningful rapport they achieved and translated into this book. Then the question: what can I do to make a difference?

Sections on mothers and motherhood ring so true. A good mother described as one whose children feel safe with her. What a sweet and excellent affirmation!

Frankie Gatchell makes a comeback. Hildie has ups and downs w sobriety.
