My new friend Diane has laid out her memories and the truth of living in the shadow of her brother David. She is strong and brave; what other choices were there?

Lots to apply to life, despite the specific scenarios here. Insightful and perceptive.

What a story! I can’t wait to learn the resolution, but I already miss the characters.

This author tells a good story and informs the reader about less well-known history. I finished Mirelle West and immediately picked out this book. Strong start!

Fascinating flashback and a cold case comes around. John McGinnis at the trading post is still alive after all. Joe Leaphorn gives us a good message about living on after the loss of many friends. Sad but poignant. Sure wish I could send a thank you to Mr. Hillerman.

This book is beautifully crafted; the quotes and content are perfectly inserted in the engaging action of Porter Osborne growing up and conquering the challenges of medical school.

Grim but fascinating - exile to Siberia by Russia, under Stalin.

The details about the Irish potato famine and the prolonged starvation of thousands… so tough to understand how the English ignored other human beings. Briana and her soft sister try their luck in America, where Irish discrimination continues for them.

Lithuanian history is just a vague notion, yet their citizens become real in this brutal story of Siberian exile. The various styles of coping w difficulty (such an inadequate word!) are made clear. Where is hope? How do tyrants like Stalin continue in power?

Leaphorn and Chee meet in 2 different angles and crimes at the same location. Chee and Janet Peet clash again. Fleas causing plague in the SW is new to me!
