Ooh, you sneaky so-and-so...

Time to bring what's been a very weird--but incredibly well crafted and highly entertaining--series to a close.

There's no question that D&D's reputation as a cult-like, satanic game was an absurd product of horrible, baseless, sensationalist reporting, but you can't help but wonder how much that reputation, in turn, drew people to the game. That is, would it have become a cult phenomenon of a different sort, and would it have had the pervasive influence it's had but for the taboo vibe created by that shoddy reporting?

All right, Bendis--let's see what you do with one of those B-list DC wannabes.

I have a fantasy that a critical plot element in Bill and Ted 3 is them traveling back in time to play D&D with Gygax and Arneson (which, naturally, would somehow relate to another madcap race to get to the battle of the bands on time).

What? Like YOU don’t have some weird fantasies...

Geez...this is going to some dark places. I may need, like, a unicuppy to tickle me with angel wings to counteract it.

I'm going to languidly slow-roll (pun intended) my way through this one as time permits, but even a quick flip through this makes it apparent that this is just one explosive Sean nerdgasm waiting to happen.

I feel like fruit flies have had a disproportionately large impact on scientific development...it's sort of weird. On the plus side, they're really tasty, probably on account of eating all that fruit.

What, like you don't snack on fruit flies?

Well, balls--I didn't see THAT coming. Then again, I once proclaimed that the whole internet thing was just going to be a fad, so perhaps my prognostication abilities need some fine-tuning.

I lament that I have no genetically advantageous mutations that will translate into artistic superstardom (though the nose did come in handy during those high school auditions for the lead in Pinocchio).

It takes a lot of effort to make me not care about Captain America, so kudos to this story for making that happen.

How am I only halfway through this book?? Like 8 million things have happened. I’m not complaining, mind you—I’m glad there’s a long way to go.

In retrospect, perhaps it would have worked out better if the Neanderthals had won.

Sometimes starting work on a new book is a little bit like sneezing while eating a carrot—it’s kind of painful (and awkward if you’re around other people), and the end result is that you spray out a giant mess that you end up wiping away before taking a breath and trying again.

I think it's safe to say Fiona Staples draws better penises than anyone else working in mainstream comics today. At least, she certainly draws a lot more of them than anyone else. Poor The Will, though--thing's like one of the pieces from that old game Mastermind.

File under the heading "Things I'm reasonably confident violate the Hippocratic oath": attempting to artificially inseminate a woman with chimpanzee sperm without her knowledge or consent. I think at least 7 out of 10 doctors would say that's frowned upon.

I always feel weird when a book makes me want meat. Like, here I am, immersed in Ruiz Zafon's stunning and immersive version of mid-20th-century Barcelona and all I can think about is how much I want someone to stuff a banger in my mouth.

(Yes, I heard it.)

Sometimes DNA can be a real asshole.

It baffles me that I can't yet be reading a book and just push a button to immediately transport myself into an immersive version of the setting via virtual reality. Come on, science people--stop diddling with your giggleberries and get on this.
