It's Christmastime, cats and kittens, which can only mean one thing: it's time for a viewing of The Abominable Bride...

There’s a non-zero chance that I’m going to spontaneously combust if I don’t play D&D soon; this book is killing me. It’s like holding a bowl of macaroni and cheese in front of a five-year-old’s face and telling him he can’t eat it.

I feel like lady vampires are creepier than dude vampires; I blame the Muensters for that.

It's a good thing Mr. Fantastic is insanely smart; his power really only makes him suitable for employment in the cartoon or porn industries.

Let's just all agree to accept that Jeremy Irons really, really needed the money, make peace with it, and forget that whole D&D movie fiasco ever happened.

All right, cats and kittens--let's see if awesomely creepy gothic storytelling, like weirdly long second toes, is genetic.

But, seriously—why is there not a National Treasure comic book series? I’ll write it if you all insist.

True or False: it's okay to completely freak out, throw things in a hospital room, and be a dick to your friends because they let doctors cut off your wings.

(It's a trick question, people--YOU don't have wings.)

I'm convinced that Pendergast either has a bag of holding or wizard's pouches; that guy always has anything he could possibly need right at his fingertips. It's a little ridiculous. I'm reasonably sure he could pull out a particle accelerator, cement mixer, and double dildo without any trouble, depending on what the situation called for.

Editor #1: Man, no one is reading Thor these days.

Editor #2: Let’s just randomly jam him into this first X-Men crossover, which would sell a bajillion copies even if one of the issues was just about Wolverine taking a giant, steaming dump.

Editor #1: Genius! I’m on it.

It's Pendergast time again, and you know what that means: I need to start thinking about food metaphors (as one does when reading books that are often about serial, as opposed to cereal, killers).

Clearly, all of this turkey and pumpkin pie and cocaine has gone to my head (what, your family doesn't have pumpkin pie at Thanksgiving?), because we're finishing off the weekend with A GIVEAWAY OF The Camelot Shadow (Mobi, ePub, or PDF)! How do you get it? First of all, put down the pumpkin pie. Second, just comment below. That's it. I'm here for YOU, people.

(Yes, my largess is boundless, and no, I don't USUALLY wear thongs...wait, why are you asking about THAT? Never mind. I've said too much.)

I always appreciate it when time moving forward years at a time in a story is deftly managed.

I also appreciate it when I can call you Betty and you can call me Al, but that goes without saying.

Reading something through the prism of nostalgia is always an interesting experience, and it makes it impossible to assess the actual quality of a given story.

Obnoxiously self-promotional note: I wrote The Camelot Shadow very purposefully to be the kind of book you read when the weather changes and fall turns to winter; at that time of year, I love books that mix history with mystery, thrills with chills, and characters I want to spend hours with. I'm not saying I achieved an optimal mix of that, mind you, but I gave it a whack. Check it out if you're so inclined.

I love that some of these modules are for parties of 6-8 adventurers, and I wonder what it would be like to play with that many people; outside of a couple of times at game cons, which is fun but sort of a weird situation, I've never played a D&D session with more than 4 people (including the DM). For those who have routinely played with big parties--more or less fun than with small parties?

It's that time of year again, friends--time to renew Heloise's traditional holiday greeting: https://www.goodreads.com/author_blog...

Not for the faint of heart (or those opposed to a groan-inducing double entendre).
