A Shiver of Light (Merry Gentry, #9)
I should not be laughing at the "About the Book" part. Nor should I have found something to highlight already. I'M NOT EVEN AT THE TITLE PAGE YET.

Bunch of us, myself included, are featured in a
Buzzfeed post
. Couldn't be happier they used my tweet to stopthegrbullies.NET and accurately described STGRB.

In case you don't follow me on twitter, everyone's favorite author of the week is no longer a GR author. Damn, finally some good news!

Ok, remember my last update? How I somehow ended up off the list when I was in the 60s for the longest time? Now I'm #11? I don't understand this website.

So I haven't read (nor reviewed) anything in months and I just noticed I've been bumped off the top reviewers of all time list (I was in the 60s ... how did that happen?) Oh well. But. Should I shamelessly read the latest Merry Gentry because of this?

Invisibility
Giving this a chance even though reviews are not that positive but I've never read these authors before. I like the idea of a male author and a male protagonist though, especially in a paranormal setting. You just don't see that too often. I also really like the concept of invisibility, and Memoirs of an Invisible Man with Chevy Chase was one of my favorite movies as a kid so I figured, why not give this book a shot?

Sixth Grave on the Edge (Charley Davidson, #6)
I was staking out a Mr. and Mrs. Foster, so I was definitely on a stake out. No idea what Naked Dead Man was on. Considering the fact that he looked about 112, probably blood thinners. Cholesterol medication. And, judging from the state of his manhood, which I couldn't stop seeing
every single time
I turned toward him, Viagra. If I were to hashtag that moment, my status would read something like #impressed.

"Nothing lasts forever. That's the tragedy and the miracle of existence—that everything is impermanent. Everything changes. All we can do is make the best of the time we have. And go down shooting, naturally."

"Why am I getting the morning congregation experience?" [...]
"It is the sixth day of the Month of Do Not Put That in Your Mouth!" proclaimed one of the priests, sounding incredibly pleased about that fact.
It took me a moment to figure out what that meant. [...] (Religious mice are weird.)
"You want cheese and cake, don't you?" This was the right answer: the room erupted into cheers and jubilation.

"That isn't an answer." I planted my hands on my hips. "Was there a reason for shoving the gummy bears off the counter? Did they tell you they were suicidal? On second thought," I raised a hand, palm out, "don't answer that. If the candy is talking, I don't want to know."
"The container blocked the Sacred Route of Celebration!" announced one of the junior priests. [...] "It required adjustment!"

One could argue further that most household rodents don't wave weapons jubilantly over their heads when people come into the room. As far as I'm concerned, all that proves is a lack of imagination on the part of most household rodents.
Not even a sea of cheering mice could keep me from noticing the broken glass and gummy bears covering the kitchen floor. "Didn't we talk about this?"
"HAIL!"

A stranger with rodent-centric phobias would probably have [run] screaming out of the apartment, because the counters on both sides of the room were overflowing with a teeming sea of furry, multicolored bodies. Mice.
Technically mice, anyway, or at least close enough for taxonomical work. One could argue that most household rodents don't wear tattered tribal clothing made from scarps of fur and fabric. [cont.]

Damn it. I wouldn't even call the ending a cliffhanger, it just ENDS in the MIDDLE of things. Are you kidding me?! I want to deduct a full star for that, but ... I won't. 3.5 rounded up to a 4.

Fifth Grave Past the Light (Charley Davidson, #5)
This was insane. What was wrong with the world? Didn't they know that ghosts and supernatural powers where little girls helped their dads and uncles solve cases didn't exist?
It was books. It was television shows and movies. They had desensitized the world. Damn writers.

Our relationship was a lot like underwear in a dryer without a static control sheet. One minute we were floating through life, buoyant and carefree. The next we were attached at the crotch.

Fourth Grave Beneath My Feet (Charley Davidson, #4)
The superfluous emotion was a combination of fear, rage, humiliation, and insecurity. I looked down at the expanse of girl parts I carried on my chest, also known as Danger and Will Robinson. Clearly, I had no reason to be insecure.
See, this is just one of the reasons I love Charley: she's not constantly putting herself down or second guessing her looks. She's not obnoxious about it either though. Love this girl.

Everfound (The Skinjacker Trilogy, #3)
The way one looks, physical strengths, is all determined by what an Afterlight believes—and no one can truly control what they believe. We can lie to ourselves, saying we believe one thing, and sometimes we convince others it's true, with the hope that by convincing others, we can convince ourselves. Wars are often waged not because of what we believe, but because of the things we want others to believe.

No! He would not go down the tunnel with his head hung low. He was once great--he had to remember that. He once inspired fear and respect, but he gave that up for Allie. Because he loved her. And although he still loved her deeply, it wasn't the same as it had been, and he marveled at how love could have so many hidden textures ... for the feeling that once cushioned his heart now chafed at it.

Randomly started this because I saw a Facebook post about it being awesome. And I love retellings. So far, so good, but I'm worried it's going to drag. I mean, I'm a quarter of the way through and I feel I'm at a point that would be closer to the middle of the story, or even further. Here's hoping I'm proven wrong.

"I'm feeling generous. I shall answer one question for every month you spent in my company as a child."
He looked over at her. Her lips thinned. Her fingers tapped an angry rhythm against her saucer.
Robert stood up. "As you are no doubt aware," he said, "that leaves you with no questions at all. This interview is done."
And so saying, he stood and left the room.
His mother is gonna need some ice for that burn.

It is cultured but terrifying, like an eagle's scream.
Useless trivia time: that sound we associate with eagles? Not really the sound they make. Most often a hawk's cry is what's used.
This is what an eagle sounds like:
