Someone please find me a new manga series that doesn't suck T__T

Was confused at first at whether this was "Shuriken 'and' Pleats" or "Shuriken 'in(to)' Pleats."

But, good news! Both work :p

Anyone have any reading resolutions yet? I'm still trying to think of what I want to accomplish next year.

Really touching Author's Note in regards to author L.A. Banks's passing. Especially ties in well with the story and how we, and the characters, deal with grief.

Reading this slowly over the last few weeks and I get to this part and ... damn. Did NOT see that coming.

I want to start on Marvel comics after bingeing on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. but ... it's so freakin' overwhelming. Just learned there's a reboot in the reboot too. And so many events. I seriously have no idea where to start.

Honestly, I don't really like post-apocalyptic stories most of the time, but this book does a good job of making it different/interesting from the many others out there.

Also ... zombies. I kind of like the philosophical slant this is taking, and the argument over what is really "alive" and "dead."

Good stuff so far.

This is giving me Jigoku Shoujo feels. But ... without the contract ... or wacky sidekicks ...

The Stained Shirt Man moves to the bathroom and frowns when he turns on a switch but sees only darkness. Nonetheless, he moves toward the sink and begins to wash his face.

(Nonononono don't look in the mirror in the dark!)

When he lifts his head, I am standing directly behind him [...] Our gazes meet in the mirror, and the Stained Shirt Man shouts in alarm, stepping away.

(Aaaahhhh I told you!)

I seriously don't even want to call this "just" middle grade, because it has so much substance, but it's suitable for that age range regardless. The story is totally not what I expected though. The main fairy reminds me of Rowan from the Throne of Glass series, in a way. Maybe ... Rowan-lite? Rowan just when he started hating humans? This is fantastic, nonetheless.

I'm not that far in yet, but this reminds me of The Graveyard Book a lot, in tone.

This book is a lot darker than I thought it would be. Super realistic fiction though.

Every time I get one of those emails saying a book on my shelves has a giveaway I think about entering then remember that the giveaway person gets my name and address.

Calpurnia speaks to me on a spiritual level.

One day I would have all the books in the world, shelves and shelves of them. I would live my life in a tower of books. I would read all day long and eat peaches. And if any young knights in armor dared to come calling on their white chargers and plead with me to let down my hair, I would pelt them with peach pits until they went home.

"About Jonah Pickett." Mama glanced down at me. "Do you have a crush on him?"
"Not a crush." I shook my head. "More like an inflate. He makes me feel the opposite of crushed. He makes my heart feel like a balloon, like it's going to blow up and fly right out of my chest."

A rebel beam of sunlight pushed through the clouds, shining through the rain beads stuck to the screen and glass. And then that strange, golden rain light shone warm and pretty over Oliver's books. I wondered if the sun had missed the books, had waited as long as it possibly could to shine over those spines again. I knew how that felt, to love a story so much you didn't just want to read it, you wanted to feel it.

"What's the word you see most often, Felicity?"
"Lonely," I said. "I see it all the time, mostly in school and in church and in malls and driving down the road. Always the places where the most people are. Isn't that weird?"
"Probably not," he said. "Probably not at all."

Just as I figured, the apple wasn't sweet. Some words have a taste, and lonely is one of them. It doesn't matter if you're eating apples or chicken fingers or peanut butter cookies — once you see lonely, everything tastes like sand.

I made a big show of catching invisible words in my hands and putting them in my mouth and chewing on them. I knew my word-catching charade wasn't the best way to make a fast friend at Stoneberry Elementary School. But it was the only way I could think of to make my sister feel better. And I think if you're lucky, a sister is the same as a friend, but better. A sister is like a super-forever-infinity friend.

Believe
The letters were made of melted sunshine. They dripped down the window glass, warm and tingly against our faces. Believe is a powerful word to see and say. But that morning, I felt it. And feeling it was the best of all. I knew something wonderful was about to happen to me. I didn't know what, or why, or how. But I believed.

Sitting in the Business Association's meeting room with Vlad, Henry, and Tess, Simon refocused his attention on Pete Denby and the excruciating list of papers that needed to be filled in or signed or some other such thing in order to purchase a building.
Why couldn't they just give the human female a bag of money and then pee on the building so that everyone would know it was theirs?
