Ok, so I was wrong. This isn't Vampire Mountain: Part 4, only about 1/3 of it is. But now I'm kind of upset because I think I know how the series ends because I read the first book of his other series. I didn't know they intersected! I could be wrong ... but ... I don't think I am. Ah well, I'll keep reading to find out.

Nope, I was wrong; this is Vampire Mountain: Part 4. Is this storyline going to just stretch over the rest of the series? (No spoilers, just a rhetorical question.)

Hmm. I think that wasn't a loophole but I giant gaping cavern you just threw Darren through. How you can fix something in the past by making them immune to it in the future doesn't make much sense. Like, Obama being elected president doesn't make his parking tickets go away ... Ah well. It's still an entertaining series, that's for sure. I keep staying up way too late and speeding through them. On to the next!

Are you serious? Not only should this have been called "Vampire Moutain: Part 2," but the next book should've been, "Vampire Mountain: Part 3!" You really can't end these books like this! I'm wondering if this storyline is going to continue into a fourth book, but I think it'll finally be over in the next. It's a good thing that it's an enjoyable storyline, that's for sure.

ARGH! This should've been called Vampire Mountain PART 1! Dang it. This is seriously half a story. I might dock a star for that, Shan. Gonna have to think about this while I load up the next book ...

Easy read, good start to a new series. I'll definitely continue.

I'm going to regret being awake still but I can't stop reading. If you want something quick to read that will keep you glued to your seat (or in this case, glued to my bed reading in the dark) then definitely give this story a chance. It's not the greatest literature ever written but it's different and interesting and I don't hate the characters: sometimes that's all I ask for.

I didn't know what she was doing at first, so I craned my neck to see. When I saw the bits of white on Mr. Crepsley's lips I understood: she was spinning a web! When she was finished, she lowered herself from his chin, like she had before. There was a large web spun across Mr. Crepsley's mouth. He began chewing and licking the web! He ate the whole thing and said, "Delicious. Nothing tastier than fresh spiderwebs."

"You will be okay," Mr. Tall told her. "The stitches will fall out after a couple of days. It will be fine after that."

"Maybe that's not good enough!" someone shouted, and a big red-faced man stepped forward. "I'm her husband," he said, "and I say we should go to a doctor and then the police! What if he'd bitten her head off?"

"Then she would be dead," Mr. Tall said calmly.

I love deadpan humor in horror.

The people in the theater were a mixed bunch.

What everyone shared was a look of excitement.

I could see it in their eyes, the same light that was shining in Steve's and mine. We all somehow knew that we were in for something special, the likes of which we'd never seen before.

(And here's hoping that this same excitement holds up over the course of this 12 book series [and also its 5 prequels].)

I'm not sure how I feel about all of the exclamation points being used! Normally I want excitement to be conveyed, not pointed out to me with obvious punctuation marks! But I liked the first book in one of his other series, Lord Loss (and even commented on his writing style back then, too, apparently,) so I'm willing to overlook it. For now!

In real life, vacuum cleaners kill spiders. If you cross a busy road without looking, you get whacked by a car. If you fall out of a tree, you break some bones.

Real life's nasty. It's cruel. It doesn't care about heroes and happy endings and the way things should be.

In real life, bad things happen. People die. Fights are lost. Evil often wins.

I just wanted to make that clear before I began.

I've always been fascinated by spiders. I had one who made a cobweb above my bed and stood guard for almost a month. Going to sleep, I used to imagine the spider creeping down, crawling into my mouth, sliding down my throat, and laying loads of eggs in my belly. The baby spiders would hatch after a while and eat me alive, from the inside out.

Thought I'd post this in case, you know, you didn't feel like sleeping.

She held the child close. "You're a piece of magic, Tatiana. And I'm sure your father will recognize that. Any parent would. But if you're ever afraid, I want you to know that I love you. I always want you to know that you're loved, Tatiana."
Tatiana threw her arms around Heather's neck. "It's okay," Heather said, and, for a moment, she wished the child were her own.

Matt had been gone for a week now, their relationship irrevocably damaged. "I wish you could have believed," was the last thing Heather had told him as he'd left. Perhaps this was a taste of the family she had hoped to one day build with Matt. Perhaps Tatiana's arrival had shown Heather something that she otherwise would have been forced to learn after years of unhappy marriage ...

Tatiana's father was a citizen of Canada, having fled there in 1994 after the death of his wife and daughter. He was a priest, operating a small church in Montreal. When Heather spoke with him on the phone, he had fallen into a fit of crying and apologizing, though she did not understand what he was sorry for. "Do not let her go," he said at one point. "Please. Hold on to her until I can hold her myself."

"Once, when the world was very young, there was a girl who had no parents. She lived alone in the forest, very afraid and very sad. She did not even have a name because there was no one to speak with."
"That's a sad beginning," Heather interrupted.
"My father says that good stories have to begin sadly," Tatiana replied matter-of-factly. "Because if we have not been sad, then we cannot be happy."

He was their father, and he was Returned. No one could say just when he disappeared, only that he was not there. They searched for him, but with great uncertainty, as they were forced to admit to themselves that his returning from the grave had been an uncertain and unexpected thing to begin with, so why would his disappearance be anything else?

Your family member dies, comes back, then disappears? That sucks.

Uncertain of what he expected, suddenly he found himself alone with a lifeless, bleeding body that, only a moment before, had been a young girl who had liked him and thought him a decent man. The air in the room seemed stale. He stood and left, pretending all the while that he did not still hear Tatiana's voice, replaying in his memory, audible over the sound of the gunshot still ringing in his ears.

"What do you think happens when we die?" he asked. She thought for a moment, feeling unsettled all of a sudden ... But he was white—and he was American—so she knew she would not hurt her. She thought then of what her mother had told her once about death. "Death is only the beginning of the reunion you did not know you wanted," she had said. She was about to tell him this when he pulled his pistol and shot her.

"We're done," one of the doctors said. Then they left. He stood there, naked and cold and afraid, watching the door shut and being locked into a room whose location he did not know, at the behest of people he did not know. "What did I do?" he said to no one. But only the sound of the empty cell in which he was now left alone answered him back. It was a loneliness not unlike that of the grave.

Omg I HATE this new cover for A Monster Calls. HOW COULD THEY?!

Found myself already 10% in without even meaning to. You know the whole, "I'll just read a couple of pages to see if I should bother with this," thing. Definitely an intriguing concept. How will people cope with having their loved ones back after dealing with the grief and acceptance after they were gone for so many years? I can't imagine what it would feel like to have your 8 year old back after 40 years.

I liked it. Probably won't review it. Take your chances ... or don't.

He just had to put his mom in a nursing home. He can't take care of her when he's struggling with taking care of himself being recently blind. She urinates on the floor and can't feed herself so she needs special care. When he drops her off at the nursing home, it's pretty heartbreaking stuff: "That day ... I thought it was good that I couldn't see. If I saw her face I wouldn't have been able to leave her." T_T

This is pretty much the saddest idea for a manhwa ever. Guy draws manhwa and takes care of his mentally disabled mother who had constantly told him to give up drawing as a career when he was younger when she was still well. He slowly goes blind. :'( Then the other character, which you can tell from the title, is deaf, and they somehow fall in love. I'm at the bleak part where he's trying to cope with being blind.

Were they just playing euchre in this futuristic world? Now that's a sure sign of a Michigan author.
