Very fast moving, already rushing through the introduction compared to the movie which I am cool with because that means there may be more storylines/details from the middle that were left out

I listed this as my favorite of the tawny man trilogy, but I can hardly remember specifics of what happened in it (although my memory is somewhat refreshed from having refinished fools errand) so I am giving it another go. So far I’m glad to be back!

I like Dr. Armstrong I’m a fan of what he said about his dreams and about islands being magical. Also what is Marston preparing to do I thought he had set the record off

The Corpse: creepy, funny, existential- great story
Sullivan’s Reward: Classic horror movie inspiration, actually pretty creepy either with a seen that grossed me out towards the end but hellboy is always funny w it
House of Sebek: a story that we hop into right before the resolution which is pretty funny
The Iron Shoes: I laughed so hard at this one I just didn’t expect that at all as the last story lmfao😭

The Crooked Man: ohhh my god🤯 that was insane easily one of the best stories, brutal with a dark and eery tone and set in an evil corner of Appalachia, this story is actually terrifying and fulfills a thrilling complete narrative with a fascinating cast of original characters. That one’s gonna stick with me
The Penanggalan: gorgeous art set in Malaysia, another short tale of Hellboy being blown up by evil

The art in these books blows my mind
The Coffin Man- some of these stories are just Hellboy picking a fight with some ridiculous evil entity and getting his ass handed to him then being like “dammit” and just carrying on with his day and I seriously love that
The Coffin Man 2: the Rematch- see above comment, but add a darker tone and existentialism
House of the Living Dead: Hellboy😭damn man…

Hellboy in Mexico SS tier story😭 Hellboy vs the Aztec Mummy was dope just a quick encounter with quetzlecoatl and some lore drops, Hellboy gets Married definitely seems like it will have some future implications I love Hellboy’s attitude in all of these stories it’s so funny

Pancakes- a funny 2 pages comic about Hellboy as a kid
The Midnight Circus- another tale from Hellboy’s youth, and an interesting dive into what his childhood was like using a different art style than usual. I really liked the every vibe of the midnight circus
The Nature of the Beast- a quick and dope story about Hellboy’s short lived dragon fight
King Vold: super interesting, Hellboy just be going wherever

Usual type of shenanigans in the strange stories, the tales of the darkhold were sweet though talking about the war between the lords of the vampires vs the montesi family. Onto Triumph and Torment, the main event!

Storylines where the whole gang pulls up are pretty neat I didn’t even realize Dr. Strange had people like that lol he’s got a solid team also I really like the dark tone and colors of the Book of Vishanti segments about Mordo’s past that dude is messed up though definitely irredeemable lol why you do that stuff for

Read Faust Gambit 1-3 and book of vishanti part 1 so far today. Vishanti chapter was cool a hard and swift lore drop of Mordo’s backstory, and the Faust gambit has been pretty dope so far probably the most unserious story so far in terms of dialogue etc but it’s bringing in all of the cast and a world threatening fight is about to break down

4 issues in, so far quite solid- this is late 80’s Dr. Strange, which is considerably different from modern iterations. Strange is very serious and to the point and is often shooting beams and stuff out of his hands. It is cool that many of his villains are primordial beings and monsters and that his battles are fought in secret. I loved the part in issue 2 where he was a rat and hanging out with a bunch of frogs
