I'm going to get in so much trouble for this but I just do not like this book or its characters at all. It just isn't working for me.

I keep forgetting this I taking place in the 90's. It feels like the 60's....

"None of us were promised to end the fight on our feet, fists raised to the sky. We could not control our enemies' number, strength, nor weaponry. Sometimes you just caught a bad one. But whether you fought or ran, you did it together, because that is the part that was in our control. What we must never do is willingly hand over our own bodies or the bodies of our friends."

Really liking this one so far. But she's said the line "let out the breath I'd been holding" at least twice already. She does seem to know she's holding it, though, so that's something.

Well, so far this is just super depressing.

I still don't know who died. The only reason I even know someone is dead and who the suspects are is because I've read the synopsis and it says so. The build up is fine and has some interesting backstories but I also feel like there's no suspense because nothing has happened and there's still so much we don't know. It's an easy read, at least, so I'll keep going but I wish I had a little more pulling me forward.

This is so good but I'm getting really scared for what's about to happen.

I think it's time to put the book in the freezer.

Not quite sure how I feel about this yet. It's very readable but I don't particularly like how the timeline jumps around.

Also, both of these characters are super annoying but I particularly hate that he keeps calling her selfish when all she wants is to feel like she's important to him. He treats her like crap and then blames her for everything anyway. Maybe it'll change in the second half.

Hector is still my favorite, even if he isn't the focus of this book. I'm just so glad to be back in this world.

I get that she's upset by what's happening but I also feel like she's being a bit (extremely) overly dramatic about all of it.
