Wilkie Collins really loved to write letters. They are so much fun. Incredible insight into the games people play.

I am enjoying Odysseus - a more complicated character than I expected. The exchange between the gods and the mortals is rather amusing - sometimes frightening. What a look into the mind set of people almost 3000 years ago. I would love to visit but not live there.

This is the kind of book that's best to read slow. Lots to ponder. The ideas are so contrary to the general opinions of our modern day.

I am finding Armadale to be both a mystery and rather amusing. The characters are well drawn. Wilkie Collins sure had an eye for humanity's absurd side.

This is a far more interesting book than I expected. There is a lot going on with complex characters struggling to find their way, metaphorically as well as literally.

I am really enjoying this - more than the Iliad. It is a more balanced story and offers more complex personalities. You see deeper into the relationships of the characters. Very interesting.

We are doing this as a read-aloud at night and we've been having fun trying to figure out the characters.

The kids and I were discussing new brain research - Wow! So now I am going to read them Flowers for Algernon. Great discussion book.

I've go to admit - I am ready to dive into the story but I've got a few pages of the intro left. Still, I have learned so much from the intro I know I will get so much more out of the story. Amazing history!

I've never enjoyed an introduction so much! It's a story book, its a history class, it's a long range look at the human race.

I am reading the intro and discover this story (first a chanted poem) is over 2,700 years old. Now I am seriously impressed.

Slow going because I pulled away with so many other books for reviews - but this is a book to enjoy slowly & ponder the words.

I am so impressed with this book that I am recommending that all my older kids read it. So much history about the early church and yet such an interesting story - told from the servant's point of view. Fascinating yet seriously informative.

I am reading this aloud to the kids and they love it. It very well written and engaging my interest as well. One of the best children's books I have read in a long while.

Julian Bauer, author of The Scholar's Challenge, knows his stuff! When it comes to church history and the thoughts, theories and heresies of the age - he has it down. I am learning a lot as well as enjoying the story!
