The writing is the same quality, but this feels like a wasted volume compared the story as a whole.

Two quick notes. 1- Weber is starting to kill off characters that have been around for 10 books now. I can only imagine he has so many it is almost impossible to maintain control of. 2- These books- as much as I love them- could be so much shorter without all the unnecessary details he loves to add in...good lord! Still a great book though.

I always forget this is the one with a 300 page exposition on Karsa Orlong to start the book....so technically, the story doesn't begin until page 270... ah well. From what I heard, Karsa is going to lead an army of Toblakai to take over the world anyway....
