Why can't I get into this book? I've read it before and felt I needed to go back and do so again now that I am giving the Malazan Book of the Fallen a reread. As much as I enjoy the story, every page is a slugfest.

Not really feeling large portions of this book- but with the understanding that anything created to detail the origins of a greater story (think the Star Wars prequels) is just hard to pull off. Not a bad book at all, but not as engaging as some of his earlier work.
