"I'm waiting to be impressed... "

It's ok... kind of fun to spot the references and whatnot, and you can follow along even when you don't get them - but it sort of reads like a history book, and I'm not really invested in any real way.

I'm generally enjoying it, but there's still something a bit off about the writing style.

I'm kinda torn on this. On one hand, I'm finding the concepts interesting, but distant... but it seems like it could come together nicely. But the tense and timelines shifts, and the telling vs showing, are all very jarring.

I sort of glaze over on the non Durzo/Azoth bits - but right now there's lots of shit going down between those two, and I'm into it.

Things are coming together and moving along at a good clip now.

Pretty much enjoying this so far. The humor is good, and I like the little character moments. There's something about it which stops it from being great - but I can't quite put my finger on it.

Put this down the other night. Wasn't really grabbing me, and I decided to wait for the other slowpokes in my group who are meant to be reading it with me... *drums fingers on desk*

Picked this up after a hiatus - trying to refresh my memory about what's going on.

A decent story, if a bit implausible and melodramatic at times... but I'm finding the little name shout-outs to be a little twee. The helper/love interest named Irene... the kindly jail visitor being Doyle (Andrew C Doyle... Arthur Conan Doyle)... and Sherlock knowing Moriarty as a child when he was the head of a gang of ruffians? Really?

IT's a bit odd, and jarring, to read what is essentially a fanfic type story on the heels of another (i.e. the Enola Holmes books). The background/parent/origin stories in them are very different, and the differences are a bit jarring. Of course, since neither are canon neither can be wrong - it's just a bit weird. That said, when I can stop comparing it's a promising story, so far.

Yay! I'm finally able to get my hands on the last two books in paperback, and finish my reading!

Started the reread of this last night. I love that "Oh my stars and garters" is considered such a naughty thing to say. :>

I wasn't planning on re-reading this, but I've been in a bit of a funk and needed something light and fun. Since the new books are coming out on the 10th (yay!), I figured it worked as a double bonus. :>

Putting this aside for a wee bit... Feeling pretty meh and I don't know if that's why the book isn't catching me, or if it's just the book. I'll give it another shot in a day or so...

I'm liking it a bit better now - but really only enough to elevate it to a 2 1/2, maybe, instead of a 2.

I think I'm at the point where, were I the type of person to ditch books, I'd ditch this one. Thing is, though, it's not terrible. I've read much worse. It's not even particularly bad - per se. It's just... it's not very good, either, and I'm just not connecting to it at all.

Shouldn't we be past the set-up by now?

From the brief bit I read this morning, I'm worried about the telling vs. showing style of writing. The whole "I was so scared my hands were shaking" kind of thing.
