At some point I had the thought "OMG, they're Scottish Smurfs". Way cooler than the Smurfs, though. LOL

Beldsoe's writing, in this, coupled with the setting and circumstances, reminds me a bit of Simon Green's Hawk & Fisher series. Not sure this is entirely a good thing...

Not quite living up to my expectations, but a decent read regardless.

A good example of what I consider as a magical realism type of book - glimpses of magic in an otherwise mundane reality. Kind of cool at times, but boring at others.

Picked this up again tonight. Had put it aside 'cause I started it too early for group. I really liked the first few chapters, but now it's sort of slogging as we go through family history.

I know it's called Bitterblue and all, but I'm missing spending time with the other characters. I wish we could follow Katsa and Po and Giddon and all on their various Council duties and less of Bitterblue's internal court and romance dramas. I mean, I'm liking it well enough, and I'm curious as to what the outcome will be, but it feels repetitious and I'm frustrated with everyone being stupid.

And here's an interesting twist in the tale...

It started off really promising, but's kind of taken a dip.

Interesting re-telling so far, though I'm curious to see how much it'll diverge.

I'm enjoying it. I'm not loving it - but there are some stakes at play, so that's cool.

Once more unto the breach, dear friends. It's starting to pick up as we get into the investigation. I still can't decide if Books and Braun are wittily clever names for our intrepid heroes, or groan-worthily crappy puns.

A tale within a tale within a tale...

Seems promising enough, but didn't quite grab me out of the gate... and since a copy of 'Wind Through the Keyhole' came into my possession earlier than anticipated... well, I'm sorry Ministry chaps, but you'll have to wait just a little while longer 'til I get back to your story.

So far I'm generally digging the story, but some things are throwing me off - like the timeline seems a bit jumpy and the faux-archaic language is clunky at times.
