I'm enjoying this much more than I thought I would. The main character is likable, only occasionally stupid, and pretty tough, and the mystery is fairly twisty and interesting. Something of a page-turner, to be sure.

It's hard to get into a battle when there's little real danger.

So, it's enjoyable and all, but it's missing something... some wit or tongue-in-cheek humor or something that made Parasol Protectorate fun.

I've been getting less enthused about this series for awhile now, as Tom gets older but neither the writing or anything else does... but this one has been especially irritating as, not once but twice, Tom gets himself into danger by being eminently stupid.

Oh, to be cursed with beauty. The horror. ;)

Overall I'm kinda digging the story and its American McGee vibe.

But there were twitterings of a possible love-triangle in the future, and this makes me sad.

So, colored font seems to be a thing now. At least I adjusted to this purple easier than I did to Anna's red.

As to the story itself, so far I'm intrigued.

"Don’t tell me I’m going gray at thirty-one! she thought in horror, but she noticed that none of the colors were her own."

I started going grey at, like, 23. Deal with it.

Also - what, exactly, do independent-minded eyebrows look like?

"But even while she was in the dreams, she was confused. She was kissing someone, but she couldn’t see him. All she could do was feel him, and shiver. And when his tongue stretched down her throat, she didn’t panic."

His tongue stretched *down her throat*? Seriously? Is this meant to be a kiss, or an attempt on her life? WTF?

The book opened really strong, but sort of lagged in the middle. I'm hoping for a big finish, though.

Only 23 pages in, and already several quotable lines. Vetinari's the man, yo.

When I finished my other book yesterday, I decided to try and finish this. But my mind kept wandering, and then I started dozing...

The words, man. So many words to say so little. Ye gods, the words!

I really want to DNF this, but just can't bring myself to. And it's more than my usual masochism. I feel like I should like this. I mean, it's right up my alley, and a classic.

But... I just can't...

I've kind of started skimming in places, one the descriptions get too belabored... but I'm really bad at skimming, and usually end up going bad to read stuff, anyway. Blargh.

It's taking me forever to get through such a short book. Probably doesn't help that I keep dozing off while reading it...

So far nothing to write home about...

Maybe this book is better for curling up on a dark night than on the elliptical? Not really digging the writing style...

And the blood colored lettering thing is killing my eyes.

Philadelphia Rolls do not generally have roe on them - cod or otherwise. It's salmom, avocado or cucumber, and cream cheese wrapped in seaweed and rice. It's a small think, but it bugged me.
