I was stupidly skimming the reviews of this during a break at work today and stumbled across a giant spoiler which I'm not remotely happy about. Kinda put a damper on my desire to read this...

The author comments were funny in the prologue/foreword thing. The first few interruptions were cute. Now I'm just wondering if we can get through 5 pages without some author commentary...

I figured it out. Several authors must've seen "The Producers" and took it to heart: You shut up! You are the audience! I am the author! I OUTRANK you!”

I need to start my own group and call it 'Cranky Book Curmudgeons'. *le sigh*

Intro, battle, travel, battle, intro, battle, travel, battle, travel, battle... I keep thinking it should make a good movie, so I'm wondering how - according to several accounts I've heard - they managed to bollocks it up.

I'm not very far in, so no real thoughts yet, except the name 'Nany Bobofit' is very distracting. I imagine she'll play some important role, considering how often her full name had to be repeated, but, for now, all I could think whenever I saw her name was "Nancy Boba Fett".

What is it with some people in Feedback constantly wanting to net-nanny the site?

Part 2 is better than Part 1, so far. Hope the momentum keeps going.

This is taking forever. It's interesting in a way, but I'm not really invested in any real way.

If the blurb for your book is riddled with misspellings, bad grammar, and is just badly written... ain't no way in hell I'm picking up your book. Just saying...

In my last review of a Holly Black book I stated I had fallen out of love with her books. I wasn't gonna bother with this... but then it was picked as BotM in one of my groups, and someone lent it to me for free, so... Here I am again. Not very far in, but can't say it's grabbing me at all...

I picked this up 'cause they were tossing it at the library, and I was like "Hey, why not? It's gonna be crap, but it might be fun crap."

So far - it's ok, but I'm not a fan of shifting 1st-person perspective. Even though each chapter tells you whose perspective it is, it takes me a minute to adjust when they change. Also, they're not different enough to make it believable. 3rd P limited would've been better.

'Daughter of the Midway...' - Pretty decent ending to the collection. Broke out of the UF mold, and it was nice to see a story from someone inside the carnival. Funny how only the first and last stories actually seem to do that...

'Hell's Menagerie' - A Charlie Madigan story - Once again, I'm not familiar with the series this story is a part of, but you get enough of a gist to follow along. I generally liked this one - mostly because I have a weakness for animals, I think.
