Butcher is kinda heavy-handed with the foreshadowing... after something is mentioned three or four times that Dresden won't do 'cause he's not desperate enough 'yet', it's pretty bleeding obvious he's probably gonna do it by the end of the book. Good-bye iota of suspense. *le sigh*

The RPG style character stats and "physical description, dominant character trait" style of introducing characters is kinda annoying... and I have a hard time believing people really think in constant geek-speak, so that just comes off as affected, to me... but, aside from that, it has some potential...

Slowly drawing to the end... waiting for the 'bad guys' to get theirs - but I've heard this is a downer book, so I'm not really expecting it to happen...

I'm so meh about this book. Some of it is cool, but doesn't make much sense, and it's not really explained... and the writing if very tell-y.

It's interesting - I find the theories of god-making and whatnot interesting, and jiving with some similar book with Small Gods and stuff... but I'm not really invested in the world or the characters as of yet.

It's actually getting a bit interesting. I'm curious to see what the fall-out to all this will be. I don't imagine it will end well, though...

I just opened this up to continue reading, and inwardly groaned. If I were the sort to readily abandon books, I think I'd toss this one. I feel like, since I'm already past the 50% mark, I should just finish.

Putting 'Casual Vacancy' on hold to squeeze in this buddy read... though if it ends up not sucking, I'll not just read it for workouts.
Seems interesting so far, thought I'm still primarily in set-up territory.

Had a hard time getting into this, but it's picked up. Still not exactly enthralling or anything, but at least I'm not constantly dozing off in my attempts to read it.
It makes me think of the actor's nightmare, a lot, and sometimes I think it would be better as a comedy, because of the bumbling nature of the protag and the improbability of the story - and I don't mean the clockwork or the fish!

Kinda just plodding along. I'm mostly clear on who's who, though I still get Shirley and Samantha confused, and it doesn't help that they're in a lot of scenes together.
Anyway - I kinda feel for some of the people, and I get the whole point of the story, but, well, it's just not my sort of thing, really...

I went to the library to pick up a book yesterday, though I wasn't really in the mood for it. On top of that, I was having trouble focusing on the book I was reading, 'Infernal Devices'. So I decided to browse the kids section - wanting something light and fun - and saw this, which I did have on my may-read shelf... so I picked it up.
I'm really glad I did. It's really cute and fun so far, and just what I needed.

And we're back, after a brief holiday (with its accompanied no work-outs, obviously) - and it was hard to get back into it. I just don't really care about any of the characters all that much...

Nonplussed is an interesting word. It means "to render utterly perplexed; puzzle completely", but it sort of sounds like the opposite - i.e. that you're unfazed.

I mention this because at least two books I've read recently have used the word the wrong way.

So this is sort of a note to authors - please make sure you actually know what the words mean when you use them. (And it never hurts to double check.) ;)

First impression: This isn't the sort of book I'd normally read, but I knew that going in. I've always thought that one of Rowling's strengths, though, is in her character development and portrayal - and that's helping her here, since this is so much a character-based book, and I am curious about a few of them. That said, there are *so many* characters and I'm already having a hard time keeping track of who's who.

It's a good thing that I have a passing interest in theology, specifically translation issues with the Bible, as well as history of feminism... because that's pretty much what this book's been about so far.

Those who thought Holmes was too minor in the first book would be double disappointed with this book, wherein we've seen him for roughly 10-15 pages so far.

If I were the sort of person to regularly put down books, this would definitely be a contender...

It's not that it's bad, per se, but it's terribly bland - which is bad enough in itself but doubly bad considering that it's an interesting premise and a story based on Wonderland, even along these lines, should be anything but bland.

Since it shouldn't take long to finish, tho, I'll stick with it.

On the plus side - Has more of the intrigue that I enjoy and which was seriously missing from the last book.

On the down side - the whole fated romance thing and being drawn to someone 'cause of their tasty blood is groan-inducing and far too reminiscent of Twilight.

In the last book Eldyn's parts were my least favorite. In this book I think they're my most favorite, 'cause at least stuff is happening. Rafferdy's parts are mostly politics and scheming, and Ivy has turned into a dithering idiot.
