" It’s been FOREVER since I read a SJM book. Having read all of her books except for Crescent City and this, it was long overdue for me to finally dive into the second arc of ACOTAR.

And man - did SJM deliver.

And man - did SJM deliver.

Everything I felt about this book is what makes reading such a truly groundbreaking experience. I LIVED the entire experience. I missed the lore of Prythian, the vast expanse of its setting. I missed all the easter eggs and spicy romance. I missed the culture of the Night Court and Feyre.

Most of all, this book really enhances the series. I’ve seen a lot of people complain about the switch from first to third person POV, but in this case, I think the shift was seamless and executed perfectly.

We see a new side of Nesta in this book that I always sensed was there. We even see Feyre in a new light, which is very refreshing to me. The twists and turns of the setup for this arc of the series was amazing! I loved seeing the character growth: particularly, with Nesta, Cassian, and the Valkyries. It was more than enough of a redemption arc for Nesta. Seeing her backstory, how she works through her trauma and evolves into a much healthier, loving, and happier version of herself was beautiful. Cassian’s own insecurities and traumas from Nesta’s experience and their bond was also such a wonderful juxtaposition that added a complex dynamic. Seeing Nesta also branch out on her own through training, helping the priestesses at the library, and rebuilding the Valkyrie warriors was PHENOMENAL. Her friendship with Gwyn and Emerie was also flawless. And most of all, Nesta and Cassian’s growth on their own and together made the journey of this book SO worth it.

This book was epic. It reminded me of why I love SJM’s stories and writing so much. It’s so utterly human, and it also explores universal themes of healing, resilience, growth, and the pursuit of one’s purpose. She is one of the greatest writers of our time, hands down.

I cannot wait to see how the next book in ACOTAR unfolds! I’ve heard it’s Elain’s book next! Fingers crossed for Elain to have her own redemption arc, and for Elriel canon….?
