Hello all, thanks for coming to see me!

I’m a writer: stories, many with a fantastical but humorous nature, some with an adult hue and others written with children in mind. I can touch on the darkly funny or delve into the world of magic and murder.

I also like to express myself via my blog (please visit and say hello): http://johndrhodesauthor.wordpress.com/

I'm currently concentrating on childrens stories with Humphrey Pickleton reaching the final stages (watch this space) and my new book just cooking - a story all about Chester a sentient dog with a problem or two!

I have the ability to manage to string together words and sometimes those strings of words join up and make some quite interesting paragraphs! I have a very vivid imagination but

Bittersweet

And in amongst the senses with little haste, it touches with a sweetness and a dark bitter taste. I feel such joy in the mix of flavour, I enjoy the contrast, I enjoy and savour. My skin tingles with a touch of the mind, a look that tells me that this is a face full with life, a caring soul, sensual and kind.

“Science,' said Mr Anders Anders. 'Science, not magic. I told you before: when things are not as they appear to be, it's because they're actually simpler than you think them to be. Things are never as difficult and complicated as folk believe. You'd be surprised just how straightforward and obvious things really are. The secret is in knowing how to look at them the right way.”

“Everyone misbehaves,' said Eddie. 'That's nature. Everyone gets away with as much as they can get away with. And the more they can get away with, the more they will.”

Happy, happy joy.

John Rhodes And here is the News!

Short Story Update! Thought I'd upload Pt 3 and 4 this time so there is a bigger chunk of Buster (the dog)and Edgar (the Wizard type chap)! Please have a read

http://johndrhodesauthor.wordpress.com

What peril are the pair in, will they escape and who are what is after them? What mystery and mayhem awaits, will I get my cd player to work so that I can play some suitably sinister music as I write the ending?

Have fun and I look forward to your responses!

message 32: by John

John Rhodes Good morning people, or good afternoon, or good evening depenind on where and when or even if you read this! It's Sunday (at least here in England) and I have so much and so little to do!

Please feel free to say hello, and if you've not already done so, please visit my blog, subscribe, add comments, give me links to yours etc...

And have a good a day! :-)

message 31: by John

John Rhodes Good morning - again I'm not sure who reads these but I'll leave a little post here anyway.

I am getting a little 'posting' fatigue so, not wanting to annoy anyone I will try to not mention my blog too much - I don't try to 'spam' (which as far as I'm aware is a posting of the same message to every available area no matter if that area is appropriate or not. I try my best to post to the appropriate genre groups (fantasy. humour or anything quirky) and I do like to get involved.

Please if anyone gets too much of me the please just send me a nice message and I'll try to tone myself down - I don't want to loose any more friends and I'd love you all to message me and chat!

Have a good day where ever you are.

John :-)

AsimovsZeroth Good lord, I had no problem accepting your friend request and following you as I like to support authors on goodreads... until you posted so much about your blog and twitter that I couldn't find a damn thing from anyone else - in one freaking day. This is not the way to get people to read your work. First post? Sure I took a look at your blog, but when I came back and saw you spamming like that I decided not to read your blog again. Especially since several of your posts were within minutes of each other and about the same thing. Please don't contact me again.

Ok friends if you read this can you post a reply, I have a sneeky feeling that I may just be talking to my self (which is not unusual and I can say almost anything when I do though I do get some funny looks).

Well if you are reading people, have a good one!

John Rhodes Hi all

I have just updated my blog, a little musing on music and it's links to madness! I am convinced that my strange view of life is to some extent influenced by my love of music (and some fairly dodgy gigs both played and attended!). Anyway enjoy...

John Rhodes Gooooooood morning! I had 43 visits to my blog yesterday so thanks to those who called by! I'm looking at way of getting more people to call in so any ideas just get back to me! In the meantime my word for today is 'flumped' - some of you may remember the little creatures on television and even now that tune is bouncing around your noggin! I like to use it in moment of great stress, as in: 'Well that's me flumped!'

Have a flumping good day and don't let the thought police get you!

message 8: by John

John Rhodes Hi All... thought I'd post a bit of my e-book;

Mr Memory

Here is where we meet the lovely Jayne:

They always insisted didn’t they, that the blame for the freak floods and hurricane like destruction could not be carried on their well dressed shoulders or manicured sun drenched smiles, no the guilt was and could only be old Mother Nature’s alone. So what if they’d said it was going to be perfect weather for gaining that extra layer of golden tan but then a reddish rust was actually the only skin discolouration you would get. Bastards! Always those cheesy white as white grins and mock sympathy (with a mere hint of a smirk as the corners of mouths twitched) when bad news was the order of the day too; ‘Oh dear, lots of rain and cold and pain, but never mind here is a lovely photo of the Dales with some lovely half dead sheep sent by Mrs Olive Cowsbottom of the East Belcham Sanitary to cheer you all up’. Oh yes very bloody cheerful!

They probably went home in expensive air-conditioned limos with a nice silver bucket packed with clear ice and a bottle of the best champagne. Piece of cake that job, a million miles better than Jayne’s job, though she had no doubt that the brain power needed was roughly, give or take, a brain cell or two about the same. In fact it was a certainty that a recently dug up zombie would handle both jobs with simplistic ease and would probably do a much better job of predicting the weather patterns.

Jayne sat at the window, perched on the ample sill in the simplicity of her sparsely but tastefully appointed flat. Sparse only because she hadn’t been here for long; six months which in the grand scheme of things, eternity for instance, wasn’t long at all. Tasteful was all in the eye of the beholder of course but she liked the warmth of burnt orange and cool presence of pale green and to Hell with anyone else. The television decorating ‘experts’ were another of her favourite pet hates; how dare they walk around like bit part Jane Austen actors and have the nerve to call a Mrs Suburban Middle Age lady’s liking for frilly red curtains outdated! The cheek!

John Rhodes Good morning world!

Today I will be sailing across the seas of discovery, pushing the boundaries of the mind, exploring the mountains of ambition (you have all looked at my latest post haven't you, 'Ambition & Moles' on my blog: http://johndrhodesauthor.wordpress.com?), and fighting the waves as I sink under the filthy water of everyday work!

Yes, another normal day then!

John Rhodes Good morning all, apart from Work (still have to do the day job I'm afraid- very afraid) I'm working on a new Novel - 'The Good Wife', another short story that may or may not turn into more, it's about a talking dog (I know not the first to try that, I love the James Herbert effort though), trying for a certain angle and if I get it, you'll see it.

And of course I have to move dear old Reginald on (not Reg, he hates being called that amongst other things).

Catch you soon.
