I had forgotten so much about the book since the last time I read it - 30 years ago (give or take a month or two)! I had forgotten or maybe I didn't notice at the time how "uncomfortably" Louis speaks about Claudia - and how much younger Claudia is than Kirsten Dunst when she portrayed her in the 1994 movie (which is probably why I read the book the first time). I had also forgotten how sad Louis' story ends. And wonder if he shows up in Lestat?

04/29/2023. I am in Chapter 3 of Part 3, "Viaticum for the Marquies." Lestat is a much longer book than Interview. Lestat has just turned his dying mother into a vampire. Unlike Lestat, his mother is immediately taken to the "vampire lifestyle" for lack of a better word. She is not timid about drinking blood or exploring her vampiric powers.

It's curious how Magnus, the vampire who made Lestat, was "ugly" and not "renewed" like Lestat's mother when he was turned. Magnus tells Lestat that his ugliness is the result of being made too late.

Though just introduced and newly made, we know she disappears from Lestat's life at some point. He is only with his father when he appears in "Interview," though I wonder if she is the same Gabrielle in the Theatre des Vampires when Louis and Claudia arrive.

07/16/2023. OK. I am all vampire'd out. I'm at Chapter 4, Part 5, "The Vampire Armand." Lestat has disbursed Armand's coven of vampires by exposing him as a fraud. Armand went on a rampage, attempting to kill all his followers. Those that escaped ended up at Lestat's old theater and after some drama with Nicholas, who Lestat has also made a vampire, they found the Theatre des Vampires. The same showhouse that Louis and Claudia encounter in "Interview."

Lestat remarks that neither his mother or Nicholas being made immortal has seemingly changed them. They do not react to situations as they would have as living humans. However, I feel it is more interesting to consider that it is Lestat who has changed, not Gabrielle and Nicholas. He has changed from a "childless" vampire to one who has sired or "fathered" two vampires in the same way parenthood "changes" a person. ...more "
