Based on many of the reviews here, where some of the negative ones have similar squicks to mine, I think not, not now...

HNR. It doesn't look like one I'd like, but I appreciate the heads up.
HYR Storm Front by Jim Butcher

I read several Harry Dresden books years ago (before I was on Goodreads), but lost interest in the series at some point; although I can't remember why. I have often thought of resuming and may yet do so. I think I was pass book 3, but can't be certain without checking it out of the library to see if I remember reading it.
And you may be correct about Heinlein.
Kindling the Moon had a ending that I haven't found often in urban fantasy. I did see the twist coming, but it isn't a place most authors would go. I plan to move on to book 2 in this series soon.
HYR The Testing* (The Testing, Book 1) by Joelle Charbonneau
?
I am several chapters into it right now and it is excellent!

HYR Love Letters to the Dead by Ava Dellaira

Julia wrote: "The reviews here aren't very positive and ..."
I read this book several years ago shortly after it was originally published. It was a debut novel by a new urban fantasy author. I thought that she created a believable, new different world, and that it was a decent first book, and I don't remember having the same criticisms as the reviewer whom you quoted. All of her later books received 4/5 star overall ratings. The potential was there in the first book, even with a few flaws.
HNR Love Letters to the Dead
HYR Velveteen vs. The Junior Super Patriots (Velveteen vs., Book 1) by Seanan McGuire

HNR I tried to read her book The Girl Who Circumnavigated Fairyland in a Ship of Her Own Making, but quit (which I rarely do with any book) because I found it boring.
