Nia Simone Hello, I'm Nia Simone. I write romance mostly and read a mix of fiction and nonfiction. I'm not gifted with speedy reading goggles and tend to go over and over my favorite passages then get inspired and jump up to add something to a blog post draft or my fiction work in progress or to my book review notes or an email to someone about what I'm reading... hence taking forever to finish the book!

My favorite nonfiction book at the moment is The Statues That Walked. I'm mostly reading romance fiction right now and am currently enamored with Brenda Novak's contemporaries. I'm reading the Whiskey Creek series.

I just became active in social networking and found my way to Goodreads (which I've heard tons about but hadn't joined) via another blogger who "liked" a couple of my blog posts. Her blog talks about her 2012 reading challenge and it inspired me.

Thanks!

Jack (jack_) Hiya! I'm Jack and I'm from Ireland. I'm new to goodreads and hoping to read 100 books this year! I know a bit far fetched, but I'm on book 3. I'm a musicholic but I also enjoy to read. Hoping that my goal will be achieved!

ScarlettMi | 191 comments Hi, all! I'm really excited to get into the challenge this year. I'm finally working my way through that giant pile of books I've acquired over the last several years but never quite got around to reading. I've already read through a four this month and the pile is shrinking steadily.

I've been an avid bookworm all my life. You could probably mark the stages of my childhood by which book series I was into at the time. I aged from Nancy Drew to Sweet Valley High to Fear Street to VC Andrews to Star Trek to Anne Rice before I even hit high school.

I'm from Canada. And trying to remember to make time to read a bit more. I love comics and read a ton of those but I'm trying to focus a bit more on getting back into (non-graphic) novels again.

Sharon (sweetsharon) Hi Everyone! I am happy to find this group, I love to read just about anything and am always open to new authors. I am just starting A Games of Thrones and can't put it down. message 412: by Patrisia (new)

Patrisia Sheremeta | 29 comments Hi Everyone. My name is Patrisia and I'm married and live in upstate New York. I love all kinds of genres - you know, "so many books, so little time." I have a special place in my heart for literature written during the period between WWI and WWII, magical realism, and horror. Oh and historical fiction, the older the better.

I'm looking forward to the next year in books and wish you all good reads!

I do photography and play guitar/sing. I am learning polish have been for 4 months, I can speak reasonably well. My favourite books are the whole His Dark Materials series, one of the first books I really read when I was ten, and what a read :)

message 415: by [deleted user] (new)

Hi I'm Lucia. I'm from Ireland and only 12. Well I'm a lot smarter then other 12 year olds. I love to read and play guitar. So I'm trying to read stuff I don't usually read this year, no more fairy tales, fiction books and horrors. I decided I would try more realistic, romantic and more comedy books. So that's me. Seeya

Ursula (snoopp) | 2 comments Hi I'm Ace (Spanish pronounciation). I live in Australia and love reading. I enjoy historical fiction and currently reading 1356 by Bernard Cornwell. Your 2013 challenges look interesting and I am looking forward to the challenges. Cheers...

message 419: by Lesley (new)

Lesley (laparks) Hi! I'm Lesley, from New Hampshire, married with 2 sons (ages 8 and 10). My favorite genres are romance and light fluffy mysteries, but I do wander outside those genres occasionally, and actually hope to do more of that this year!!!

I've got a couple of challenges that I'm working on this year, trying to read more and trying to work down the number of unread books on my Kindle. (If only I could stop downloading more, I know I'd have better luck with that goal!)

message 420: by Ashley (new)

Ashley Welcome to all of our new members!! Have fun! :)

message 421: by AJ (new)

AJ (ame-less) | 65 comments I'm looking forward to participating in Goodreads to push myself to read more of the books I love but never get to: classics, non-fiction, challenging new lit. Somehow I always find the time to read my favorite bubblegum books (romance such as Nora Roberts and Julia Quinn or fantasy such as Mercedes Lackey). I will not be counting these toward my yearly or individual challenge goals. Feels like cheating :-) Apologies for horrible typos in the posts that I create on the phone apps! (there doesn't seem to be a way to update or correct on the apps?) Especially looking forward to the buddy reads to knock out some of my TBR. I've also joined groups with biography, history, and round the world themes-I might possibly be over committing!

Ana (bb03aav) | 2 comments Hi, my name is Ana and I and I am new to this site. Will be joining in a few challenges as soon as I learn my way around this place a bit. Hoping to read more non-fiction this year and at least one large classic book a month.

Nathaly | 356 comments Hello everyone!

message 425: by Kara (new)

Kara (karaayako) | 3984 comments Welcome, all!

Amy: You're right--no way to edit or delete through the app. I brought this up in the Goodreads Feedback thread and am hoping they add this functionality. (It really drives me crazy!)

Nathan: That's AMAZING. What are your favorites? The only graphic novel I've really read is Transmetropolitan, but I'm planning to read Watchmen later this month.

message 426: by Lavinia (new)

Lavinia (Betaky) | 8 comments Hey there! I'm Lavinia, and I joined the group for motivation, since I want to read more this year. I hope it all works out in my favor and I hope I make friends.

message 427: by Marisa (new)

Marisa (littlegoldy) | 2 comments Hello all! I'm Marisa, and I'm currently in high school, so if some stereotypical high school books pop up on my challenge, you can blame AP Lang! I mostly read young adult, historical fiction and history, though the latter two i've just recently begun to get back into it. I'm excited to get this challenge going!

message 428: by Susan (new)

Susan North (susan_north) | 10 comments I've decided to take the leap and join a group. I grew up in a military family. We moved every two years, on average, so the only long-terms friends I had were characters in the books I carried with me from duty station to duty station. I'm one of "those people" who still owns the first book she was ever given as a gift (Actress in Spite of Herself). I will read anything, including cereal boxes at the breakfast table, but I find that my favorites are scifi/fantasy, young adult literature, and sociological studies (don't ask). I'm also always up for a good political rant/read. My goal this year is to expand my reading horizons. I don't have a set number of books in mind, I just want to read "more" and "better." I'll probably join in the 1-50 section, but I'm not going to drive myself nuts over it, either. I'd rather read only 10 and truly enjoy them. So...away I go, to read a bit before bed.

message 429: by Emily (new)

Emily DeCicco (emilydecicco) | 1 comments Hi there :)

My name is Emily and I'm about to enter into my last semester at the City College of New York where I'll also be interning for NY Daily News.

So, during my break I've been doing a lot of reading. I love a lot of fiction, romance novels preferably in the lesbian genre and I love books that make you think and teach you at the same time. Right now I'm reading a book called Mind Magic by Marta Hiatt which does just that. My goals, I guess, would be to read and learn enough throughout 2013 that could boost my vocabulary as well as my intellect but also expand my reading genres.

I'm excited to be a part of this!

message 431: by Sara (new)

Sara (shesautomatic) | 112 comments Hello! I'm Sara. I'm 31 and live in the Pacific Northwest.

New to goodreads and the group, I've joined to try to put some variety in my reading, and hopefully to motivate me to read books I wouldn't normally read on my own accord. I'm looking forward to conversations about books with others who have read them as well.

Thanks for having me and have a great day!

message 432: by Kim (new)

Kim Miller-edmondson | 4 comments Hi, I'm Kim. I'm new to Good reads and the groups. I hope this motivates me to stay passionate about reading.

Heather | 125 comments Hi all, my name is Heather. I am a student at University of Phoenix, and work part-time at a local community college. I am working towards becoming a librarian because I can't get enough of books and reading. Really looking forward to doing some challenges and finding new books to expand my interests.

I didn't really mind it much, since I didn't know anything different. In addition, I don't know many people who can say, "I lived on Okinawa and then moved to Midway Island." :)

message 435: by Kara (new)

Kara (karaayako) | 3984 comments Well, I can say "I lived on Okinawa then moved to Hawaii." Is that close enough? :)

message 436: by Amie (new)

Amie (alm0824) | 41 comments Hi, I'm Amie. I've always enjoyed reading, but never made it a priority until last year. I enjoy reading challenges because it helps me make a plan for my mountain of books that I want to read.

message 437: by Tracey (new)

Tracey Ennis (aussiegirl1) | 4 comments Hi all, I am an avid reader of just about anything. I seem to be in post/pre apocalyptic mode so far this year and 2012. But I will read anything. The first page usually tells me if I can or want to get through the book :)

message 438: by Alice (new)

Nicole Woods (nicole_woods65) | 976 comments Hello, Everyone! :)

I'm Nicole. I'm an 11th Grader from San Diego, California, U.S.A. I love to read, but unfortunately due to: lack of time, an internet addiction, my slow reading, & my frequent abandonment of books for other books, I am unable to read as often & as many books as I'd like. :(

My goal for this year is to completely read 30 books.

Some Of My Favorite Genres/Topics Are: American History, European History, WWII, Psychology, War/Military, Historical Fiction, Thrillers, Mysteries, Romance, Classics, Angelology, Supernatural, Y.A., & Poetry.

Anyway, I Wish Everyone The Best Of Luck! See Ya Around!

Gabe Williams (gabew75) | 3 comments Hi, my name is Gabe. I am recently a widower with one son and have been filling my time bt revisiting my passion for reading. I love mysteries and lately have been on a 19th and early 20th century English and Euro lit kick.

message 441: by Elle (new)

Elle (mllepapillon) | 38 comments Hello, my name is Danya. I am a biology graduate student with an absolute fixation with fantasy, fiction, and young adult novels. I am trying to get through NPR's Top 100 Fantasy and SciFi while trying to round out my reading with some books outside of my comfort zone, which is lot more difficult than I initially thought.

message 442: by Anna (new)

Anna Hi. My name is Anna. I signed up here mostly out of curiosity but, now that I'm here, I think it's pretty cool. I'm 33 and used to read a lot. I've missed it and I've signed up for one of the yearly challenges here to read a novel published in every year since the year of my birth in an effort to get back into the reading habit. I tend to read contemporary lit and fantasy but plan to round out my reading experience this year by adding in maybe some non-fiction and who knows what else!

message 443: by Sherry (new)

Sherry (lilsherry) | 721 comments hello.. my name is Sherry and love reading (who doesn't if they didn't join this?) hah. I usually read lots of fiction, romance, mysteries, true crime, mangas, science fiction and sometimes non-fiction if it appeals to me.

I tried to review books but often do not, I am trying to fix that. I don't usually participate much either (also trying to fix that but may be difficult as I'm not always on the computer).

This is the first time I actually explore goodreads much and found the reading challenge. I am going for 150 books this year and may make it or read more than that, not sure, so we'll see.

message 444: by Ashley (new)
