message 555: by Tiffany (new)

Tiffany Farfan | 6 comments Hi my name is Tiffany and I love reading! I always get in trouble for reading too much and my books get grounded, much to my dismay. Note:Do not let your parents know how much you love reading. I want to read 60 books at least this year.

message 556: by DENISA (new)

DENISA HOWE | 125 comments welcome Tiffany... how many have you read so far?

message 557: by Kara (new)

Kara (karaayako) | 3984 comments Tiffany, that used to happen to me too. I would stay up reading in the dark after I was supposed to be sleeping. :)

Wait until you live on your own--now I can read with abandon. Well, except when I have to work.

Nathaly | 356 comments Welcome Everyone!

message 559: by Alison (new)

Alison G. (agriff22) | 1186 comments Thats funny Tiffany! I never got in trouble for reading, but a way I think you can get away with it is get a kindle or Nook and read under your covers. They have lights on them :) I have a Nook and live on my own, but if I was in your situation thats what i would do

message 564: by Meg-Anne (new)

Meg-Anne | 26 comments Hey everyone I'm Megan. I joined a while back but never introduced myself. I'm a mom of 2 little girls (3yo and a 4 month old). They take up a huge portion of my time but I always have time for reading. I got my first e-reader for Christmas and I am hooked. I've always been a big book person but I was limited to what I bought or what my little library had (not much). But now a whole new world has opened up and I am ecstatic to say the least. My goal for 2013 is at least 250 books. I read fast and I read a lot so my goal is just an estimate - I really just wanted to see how many books I actually read in a year. I'm doing a few challenges to read some books that I normally wouldn't choose. Hope the year is going great for everyone!!!

Hello Megan I'm glad you introduced yourself. I love this community and being around people who love books as much as I. My goal this year is 208 books and I am at 20 books read.

message 566: by Grant (new)

Grant | 7 comments Hello, my name is Grant. I have in the last few years fallen in love with reading. It started with library visits, and then online library searching, and then I got a Kindle and it pretty much goes everywhere that I do.... and so waiting anywhere is like not a problem. I just grab my Kindle and read. Thanks for your group an I hope to meet lots of people and share thoughts along the way.

Jenni (pr0fess0rjen) | 10 comments Greetings, all! I've been in this group for quite a while, but I've been so busy that I've not had time for proper introductions! I'm planning on reading Life of Pi for the March book challenge, and I'm participating in the Awards Cover Hunt Challenge as well. I'm looking forward to getting lots of great recommendations!

Thanks!

Jenni

Londa (londalocs) | 117 comments Hi! I'm Londa. I have set a goal of 52 books this year. I have read 16 so far, but I know that will slow down. I am a BINGE reader. I may read 3 or 4 books a week for a while, and then nothing for months. Hopefully it will all average out to my goal. Looking forward to taking part in some of the challenges.

message 575: by Vedriel (new)

Vedriel | 13 comments Hi, My name's Renate, I come from Austria (therefore English is not my mother tongue, sorry for any mistakes... :). I used to read a lot, but in the last years I did not have that much time. Now I "rediscovered" reading and found goodreads by chance. I decided to set myself a goal how many books I want to read, and then, luckily, I found this group. I would love to hear how others proceed in their challenge (good luck to everyone!)

message 576: by Kati (new)

Kati (katlynn_tay) | 3 comments Hi, I'm Kati! I live in North Pole, Alaska (yep, I've met Santa a good number of times). I'm 34, work in a library (where better to indulge my complete & utter adoration of books?), love to cook & bake. I'll try reading any number of different genres, though horror is pretty low on my list (have read one or two, they haven't appealed much). I read mostly romances, though lately I've been on a James Rollins spree, and I do love some sci-fi and fantasy, as well as a good apocolyptic (sp?)/dystopic story. I've got one kid, married 15 years, and a dog. That's me, in a nutshell.

Welcome Kati... Alaska hmmm, sounds very cold...I dislike cold. I read pretty much anything. Can't think of any I absolutely would not read. Not much on the erotic scene though.

message 578: by Kristy (new)

Kristy (criosti) | 4 comments Hi everyone! My name is Kristy and try to read a little bit of everything. My go-to genres are biographies and historical non-fiction. My absolute favorite books are "Alice in Wonderland" and David Starky's "Six Wives". Due to my kids (yes I blame my kids.) my reading has been restricted to children's books and anything I can read in a couple of hours. Since the kids are in school I'm finally getting some much needed free time to read. I stumbled across this group while I was looking for a place that discusses many different genres. I must make a confession though - I dislike Twilight - a lot. So I haven't read any YA books in a while (with the exception of Hunger Games.) I look forward to hearing about different books and having some good discussions.

Kati (katlynn_tay) | 3 comments Craig wrote: "Welcome Kati, finally someone that lives somewhere colder than Scotland!!! Hope you enjoy the group - check out some of the challenges :)"

OH, I've always wanted to visit Scotland. I've got a friend who just came over this summer and the pictures she posted were lovely!! I'll be checking out the challenges as soon as we hit March 15. My library does a "Cabin Fever Winter Reading Program" for adults, challenging us (we employees have our own, seperate from that of the public) to read & write mini-book-reports, and entries are compiled over the course of 2 weeks, then drawn at random for a gift card to various stores. I've never won a gift card (for employees, the prize every two weeks is a "white elephant" type thing), so I'm cranking through as many books as I can for THAT right now. Looking forward to a different challenge once this program is done.

Kati (katlynn_tay) | 3 comments Denisa wrote <>

Yes, Alaska certainly gets cold. Right now we're edging into spring, but we've had temperatures this winter in excess of -50. Not pleasant. We read (or watch movies) a LOT around here. LOL Erotica isn't a genre I've read a lot of myself, but occasionally I find a good romance that edges into erotica. Gotta have a great story-line.

Me too! I'm realising that this is why I really should not do monthly or quarterly challenges. The yearly ones work best for me. Welcome to the group. =)

Katelyn (dramanerd08) | 73 comments Hello everyone,

I'm Katelyn. I'm 22 and in last semester of college. I am currently student teaching. So that keeps me busy. But I have to read a little bit before bed or I will go insane. I just found GR just tonight! I am so glad I did. I need another way to network with people who enjoy something I enjoy!

Glad to meet everyone!

message 588: by Sasha (new)

Sasha Sinclair (SashaSin) | 1 comments Hi all!!

I'm Sasha from NYC..however soon to be moving to Perth Australia. Cannot wait for the new challenge and looking for books to read on the plane as I will be making a few trips back and forth to get settled. Love thrillers, romance, mystery, esoteric and anything challenging.

A Sealed Fate A Sealed Fate by Lisa Gordon

Just finished reading A Sealed Fate which is a really tense character driven psychological thriller. Very original in terms of style and conception and so I never knew where it was going, which was a pleasure. What I enjoyed about it was the fact that the novel did not centre around cops, detectives, PI's, forensic doctors etc. It's about a singer who stumbles onto a mystery and becomes trapped in downward spiral of vice after unwisely accepting the proposal of a Sheikh she meets while working in Dubai. A very atmospheric book with characters that are unusual literary figures yet remarkably relatable.

This is a thriller with plenty more going on for those of you who enjoy a mystery and some suspense, but want to really meet the characters, shout at them, warn them, feel their frustration and fear and in total: take something lasting from the book.

More than a fairground joyride this one - stays with you and engages all the emotions, the senses and the soul.

DENISA HOWE | 125 comments hehehehe ah Jennifer you flatter me...I usually read about 400 pages a day. My lunch hour is a little food between a lot of pages...Its rather easy if the book I am reading is one I have fallen in love with... Now the one I am reading for literature class...a well not so much hahahah.
Jennifer what is your favorite type book to read? I have no favorite, I love it all...Fiction is at the top of my likes although some bios are truly good and well... I like them all.

message 594: by Karin (new)

Karin (karindem55) Hi everyone,
I'm Karin and I live in Connecticut, married, work full time and love to read. Last year I challenged myself to read 50 books and just made it with 51 - I hope to read 75 this year. I'm finding that I'm enjoying reading challenges which is something I've never really done before and I love hearing about new books that others enjoy.

message 597: by Ycnan (new)

Ycnan (prettygoodyear) Dutch newbie here. I'm Nancy and decided to really read books again, because I love to read but for a long time just didn't read too many books. This year I decided to set the goal to a book a week, so 52 in total. I am going strong so far, and am loving it. Books give me life. I am not a chicklit fan, and also don't read many non-fiction books, but other than that: if a book seems interesting to read I'll read it.

message 598: by DENISA (new)

DENISA HOWE | 125 comments Hi Nancy!!! Glad you started to read again.. I think there are many out there who read really strong for a few years and then fall away as life gets in the way a bit too.. I know when I starting having babies and raising children I didn't read as often for myself but did always read to them and with them... even now.. I still like to read children's books...
Good luck on your challenge... Mine is set for 208 books. I have read 39 books so far. Course you have to consider I read any where from 250 pages to 400 pages a day...
hope to see you around...on here I float around all day in different places lol

With that completely obvious statement, let me tell you a bit about me: I'm Ems, from Idaho, a teacher and librarian, book blogger, reading fanatic, Star Wars geek, all-around nerd, and fabulous cook.

My favorite authors are hard to narrow down, but I adore Brandon Mull, Jessica Day George, Deborah Harkness, Erin Morgenstern, Stephanie Perkins, Victoria Holt, Gail Carriger, Troy Denning, and so many more.

Books are my life!
