PattyMacDotComma | 818 comments I just read a re-release of the 1979 Whitbread award-winner The Old Jest: A Novel by Jennifer Johnston.

1920 Ireland, 18-year-old Nancy itches for Life, discovers war (and mystery).

Baz MW (bazcatt) Seven Ancient Wonders by Matthew Reilly
This is pretty cool. I've strayed from my usual noir (supernatural/thriller/crime) to this one and I'll probably be finished this weekend.

It's a great combo of Indiana Jones meets The Mummy meets Tomb Raider with maybe a hint of Bourne Identity.
A very easy read for those not usually into this kind of thing (such as myself).

Kerri_M | 785 comments Just finished The Big Sleep by Raymond Chandler.

I read some Chandler a long time ago, probably in the 80's. What hit me this time, which I don't remember noticing so much back then, was the casual racism, homophobia and misogyny in both the dialogue and the descriptions. We have come a long way!

That said, I enjoyed this one as a good example of its time and genre. 3 stars.

Oo..."

Well, it's okay, Brenda, but it's about 50% romance which doesn't have much to do with the murder mystery part so far. I've only gotten half way through so it may prove more important further in. Also, I'm not a big fan of romance so take my opinion with a grain of salt! =o)

Ahhh I think it's supposed to be Romantic Suspense - but it sounds like it's a little heavy on the Romance! I prefer it the opposite way :)
