I am a retired historian living in Perth, Western Australia. I grew up and went to school in New South Wales, by the mighty Murray. Several generations of my father's family were involved with paddle steamers on the river, so this is the setting for my current cozy mystery series.
These days I live in a retirement centre, but manage to spend time with my three children and four grandchildren, and other extended family who all live in Perth. I'm a readaholic, tennis fan, awesome croquet player, and have a reasonably green thumb, which means not too much dies in my garden. There will be a croquet inspired murder mystery at some time, in a new series based in a retirement village. Well, they do say to write what you know.

We had contact with my mother's family in Melbourne 200 miles away - aunts, uncles, cousins - but only knew our nearby grandparents on my father's side despite, I have since discovered, a larger group of his relatives living in the area. I did meet one, once, but just who was 90-year-old Aunt Lizzie? Thank you for this question. My answer has possibilities I hadn't considered.(less)

It isn't summer where I live. We're well into autumn in Oz. My reading at the moment is trying to complete the George Gently series by Alan Hunter. Some are very good, others perhaps not so as the author wrote over a period of many years and his writing changed and improved. They are police procedural mysteries, one could almost say cozies. Some are written in first person, others third. The written word Gently is more introspective than his TV counterpart. I'm enjoying them for the most part.(less)

Hi
Christmas is fast approaching and here in Perth, today, the temperature is hot and sunny at 34C (93F for you northerners). Tomorrow it will be cooler, down to 26C (78F), so they say, which is fortunate as I'm playing in the last match of a croquet pennant tournament in the evening and my team is looking good, undefeated to date. Wish us luck that we remain so.

On the book news, if you haven't... Read more of this blog post »

It’s a short but oh so sweet little story.
