C. A. (Carol Ann) Newsome writes the Lia Anderson Dog Park Mysteries, a series of fun, romantic suspense/mystery novels which are inspired by and centered around her mornings at the Mount Airy Dog Park with her trio of rescues (rowdy hooligans).

A life-long lover of fiction, Carol turned to books and audiobooks during her decade-long recovery from a head injury that occurred when she and her bike were struck by a car. Years of immersing herself in popular fiction lead to imagining the book she wanted to read, and wondering if she could actually write it.

She is also an artist with an M.F.A. from the University of Cincinnati. You'll see portraits of some of her favorite four-footed friends on the covers of her books. She enjoys creating commun

If I get stuck, I review what's happening in the story and how each of my characters are responding to it. That always gives me direction.

I'm never stuck for very long. But I do have a trick I invented back when I was in management. The job was stressful, and I had days when I couldn't focus. Unlike many jobs, I could make my own hours. There was a multiplex theater just down the road. If I was having a rough day, I would look in the paper to see what was playing. I would pick a movie and give myself permission to go see it if I was still feeling the same way when it was time to leave to catch the next showing. Then I'd pick a task and get going on it.

Giving myself permission to leave alleviated the stress and I soon found myself engrossed in work. Out of the dozens of times I did this, I only made it to the movie twice.(less)

Padfoot: Breaking the Past (from the July 2025 newsletter)

Padfoot chillin’ at the dog park.

I’ve spoken to two animal communicators since I adopted Padfoot. Melissa told me that he’d once had a person, but then he didn’t, and she had seen images of him wandering down what looked like a country road (which could be many roads inside the city). She said no one would help him and when he scavenged compost heaps for food, people would chase him off with garde

“I sometimes think painters and writers have it easier than performers. They can create in private and let it stand on its own. Performers have to be the art. If they achieve any fame at all, they have to be that person the minute someone recognizes them. If they don’t they risk alienating fans.”
C.A. Newsome, Fur Boys

“I’m an artist, Detective. I scrape by, but I can’t afford to get sick. The cheapest and most reliable way to take care of yourself is with food.”

C.A. Newsome I ate up the Hunger Games trilogy. Finished Mockingjay the same day you sent it to me. I expect I'll love Slammed. How can I not? You wrote it. But I gotta get some work done first. I don't write as fast as you do.

Colleen Hoover Sweetness! You know how I love a good stalker. Did you finish The Hunger Games? Did you get to see the movie? I see you marked 'Slammed' as tbr. Hope you like it! *fingers crossed*
