Kath Middleton | 23860 comments We had an initial debate from which Salmagundi emerged. It feels like we're doing it all again.

sorry I was late to all this, both in submitting and the title debate (only noticed it today). Please feel free to ignore my point

message 653: by Emma (new)

Emma (emzibah) | 4125 comments I vote for keeping it as is (and I promise that it has nothing to do with having to change the cover if it changes ;-))

message 654: by Pat () (new)

Pat () | -245 comments I'm with Emma. We agreed on this once, why change it again now?

message 655: by Kath (last edited Sep 12, 2012 11:09AM) (new)

Kath | 1233 comments hear hear to keeping it as it has already been agreed once before...

if it really offends you that much then you don't have to submit anything... it's not compulsory...

"you" is generic and not directed at anyone specifically btw

message 656: by Lexie (new)

Lexie Conyngham | 1297 comments Is there still room after all this for a couple of short short stories? I missed the boat for the Gallimaufrey and really regretted it!

message 657: by Jonathan (new)

Jonathan Hill | 1599 comments I missed the debate last time but am perfectly happy to have Salmagundi. My only reservation was that it might not strongly draw readers to look inside, but it has been mentioned that sales are not the aim, so it doesn't matter if that is the case.
I'm honestly fine with anything as the title. It's not for me as a goodreads newcomer to step in and disagree. :)

message 658: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Still room and still time Lexie.

message 659: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments I don't care what it's called cause I won't be reading the title after I've bought it.

message 660: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Quite right dear! Unless Oak Tree chooses it for a group read - then we'll be looking at the bleddy thing for a whole month!

Will Macmillan Jones (willmacmillanjones) | 11324 comments Next question is: Who is going to write the blurb?

message 663: by Elle (new)

Elle (louiselesley) | 6579 comments Duh.

message 664: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Now hold on. We have a magic blurb writer in here.

Who was it? Will, was it you who sorted out Andy's blurb?

Hate when I can't remember things properly!

message 665: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21809 comments I think it was something of a joint effort, Andy wrote his blurb and some people chipped in and made suggestions, so that it was still Andy's blub but said what he wanted it to say,and how he wanted it to say it :-)
(Good editing is where the writer doesn't realise the editor has done anything because the work is what the writer had hoped it would be :-))

message 666: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Yep, think you're correct Jim.

We can do the same with the group book blub.

I like 'blub'. :D

D.M. Andrews (author) Andrews (dmandrews) | 1551 comments So is the person who writes it called a blubber?

message 668: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21809 comments D.M. Andrews (GoodReads Author) wrote: "So is the person who writes it called a blubber?"

well it reduced me to tears

message 669: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments I wrote it for the first group book and ran it by Simon who said, '... Hmmm... beer... sweet....!'

Was it Tim who was such an ace blurber?

message 670: by Tim (new)

Tim | 8539 comments I am silence personified.

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments Maybe "The Blurb" could be the subject for writing competition no.7?

message 672: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments Sounds like quite a good idea to me, then we can all vote for our favourite which will be the chosen blurb

message 673: by Lexie (new)

Lexie Conyngham | 1297 comments 'The Blurb' sounds suspiciously like a Fifties sci-fi B movie ... I see it as a slime monster that consumes books, terrifying clean-cut American teenagers in the school library, finally to be defeated by keen editing.

message 674: by Marc (new)

Marc Nash (sulci) | 4313 comments I only smoke blurbal

message 675: by Lexie (new)

Lexie Conyngham | 1297 comments No, that's conjuring up images of literary cats coughing up blurballs.

message 676: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments The Blurb form the Black Lagoon!

message 677: by Lexie (new)

Lexie Conyngham | 1297 comments Then it looks as if Blurb is an acronym: the Black Lagoon Underwater Repulsive Being, perhaps.

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments I live in the sublurbs...

message 679: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Alright.

That's quite enough blurbling in here.

message 680: by Lexie (new)

Lexie Conyngham | 1297 comments That would be down near the barcode, presumably?

message 682: by Lexie (new)

Lexie Conyngham | 1297 comments There had to be one! I must look next time I'm over!

message 683: by Lexie (new)

Lexie Conyngham | 1297 comments And yes, sorry, Patti! But it's Friday!

message 684: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Blurble.

D.M. Andrews (author) Andrews (dmandrews) | 1551 comments I don't drink, but I've often heard people say that, after a night out, everything is just a blurb the next morning...

message 686: by Lexie (new)

Lexie Conyngham | 1297 comments That casts a new light on 90s Brit Pop!

message 687: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments I was thinking, should we add the winners from the writing contests into the group book? (unless the winners ask not to be included)

You could insert them between other stories.

message 688: by Elle (new)

Elle (louiselesley) | 6579 comments Brilliant idea Jud!

message 689: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Great idea!

message 690: by Tim (new)

Tim | 8539 comments Excellent idea

Consider this permission for my one :)

message 691: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments There will need to be a little explanation of how they arose. Without that they are very random!

message 692: by Patti (baconater) (last edited Sep 14, 2012 08:08AM) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Would you like a volunteer for that task Ignite?

Edit to say, I think that's a job for Jud.

Unpaid overtime. :)

message 693: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments What? 'Cos I've got nowt else to do? Pfft!

Ok.

message 694: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments It's all about delegating, darling. :)

message 695: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Ah, but the book stops here!

message 696: by Lexie (new)

Lexie Conyngham | 1297 comments Oh, no, not more puns!

message 697: by Pat () (new)

Pat () | -245 comments It's just a personal opinion but I don't like the idea of the contest bits being added to the book. If used at all perhaps something of their own.

message 698: by Kath (last edited Sep 14, 2012 11:44AM) (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Actually as one of the winners I'm not keen either. It's not typical of what do.

message 699: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21809 comments Ignite wrote: "Actually as one of the winners I'm not keen either. It's not typical of what do."

I think it should be up to the writer, after all, is there any reason why they cannot just submit it as their contribution?

I can also understand people feeling that this book is something of a 'showcase' and they want something there that gives people an idea of what they do and what they are capable of.

Mind you I took the opposite tack and did something totally unlike my normal stuff, which was quite a liberating experience. Mind you, my normal stuff may well come as a shock to anyone who reads this book :-)

message 700: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments You know what I really love?

That EVERYONE in our group knows they can voice their opinion on any topic and it will be heard with respect and will lead to civilised discourse.

Hey! Puns are very civilised!

Why don't you think the contest entries would be suitable, Pat? Perhaps you're seeing something that I'm not. Of course nothing that a writer hadn't agreed to would be included.
