D.M. Andrews (author) Andrews (dmandrews) | 1551 comments And put it in KDP Select so we can give away lots, too :)

message 852: by Philip (sarah) (new)

Philip (sarah) Willis | 4630 comments I think around the £2 mark, the price can always be reduced after a couple of weeks and how about offering it free on Christmas Day? This tactic would raise more money for the forum whilst also maximising exposure.

message 853: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments But no one will buy it. They'll wait til it's free.

Is my avarice showing?

message 854: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments That was the thinking last time.
I just wanted to air the topic!

message 855: by Rosen (new)

Rosen Trevithick (rosentrevithick) | 2272 comments Christmas Day will probably be flooded with promotions. It will be hard to get noticed.

KUF are selling their latest group book at £1.54 and from what I can tell, it's much shorter.

I think people will buy it even if they know it will eventually be free. Members here seem to be a supportive bunch.

May be preferable to keep any upcoming free days under wraps until a couple days before though.

message 856: by Philip (sarah) (new)

Philip (sarah) Willis | 4630 comments I often pay for authors books even if I know they will eventually be offered free.I'm more than happy to pay for the privilege of being one of the first to read it!

message 857: by Elle (new)

Elle (louiselesley) | 6579 comments I'll definitely buy it too, I don't want to not give money to us!

Simon (Highwayman) (highwayman) | 4276 comments Will you go worldwide or aren't the Australians ready for it yet?

message 859: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Oh it has to be worldwide, Simon.

Our groupites are from everywhere.

I don't think I put my blog at the end of my story. Do I need to mail you the link?

message 861: by A.L. (new)

A.L. Butcher (alb2012) | 1608 comments Oh yes I don't mind paying for it.
I don't have a blog but I have a facebook page. How about putting in author pages on Amazon (or where ever)

My facebook page is http://www.facebook.com/DarkFantasyBe...

my author pages are http://www.amazon.co.uk/Alexandra-But...
http://www.amazon.com/Alexandra-Butch...

I think select is a good plan. If we aren't planning to have it anywhere else I can't see why not. People might borrow it even if we don't do any freebie days.

message 863: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Thanks - I've got Jonathan's but I'll put Alexandra's and Marc's links on tomorrow.

message 864: by A.L. (new)

A.L. Butcher (alb2012) | 1608 comments Ok cool:)

D.M. Andrews (author) Andrews (dmandrews) | 1551 comments I'm looking forward to reading it :)

Finished the first draft of my story (about 2000 words) - now to go back and make it presentable ;)

Jim | 21809 comments D.M. Andrews (GoodReads Author) wrote: "It should probably be the minimum if it's purpose is exposure for the contributors?"

I think the bishop said that to the actress

message 868: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments I've got a sci-fi from DM and a funny from Philip - last call for Mr Wailing? Are you joining the fun?
67,300 words and counting.

message 869: by Rosen (new)

Rosen Trevithick (rosentrevithick) | 2272 comments I think he's been abducted or something.

message 870: by Andrew (new)

Andrew Lawston (andrewlawston) | 1774 comments That kind of wordcount is probably enough to justify a 70% royalty rate. And that kind of price point might mean that the money coming from sales is sufficient to balance giving copies away through Select.

You need to decide what's more important, really, the money, or the exposure? I'm a bit vague on what you actually need the money for, so I would have thought the exposure might be the thing to pursue, both for the authors and for attracting new members to the group.

message 871: by D.M. Andrews (author) (last edited Sep 28, 2012 02:47AM) (new)

D.M. Andrews (author) Andrews (dmandrews) | 1551 comments I tend to agree with that last paragraph...

message 872: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments So, minimum again?

message 873: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments The money is for Simons new yacht. Has no one mentioned that?

message 874: by A.L. (new)

A.L. Butcher (alb2012) | 1608 comments Damn I thought it was for my world cruise;)

May I ask something though, can we give a little to a cancer charity. My mother has just passed away from cancer and I would relly like to do something.

Maybe in 12 months see how many have been sold and give a donation?

It doesn't matter if the answer is no. I just thought I would suggest it.

message 875: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments We'll take it under advisement Alexandra. :)

I know that is a cause close to many of our groupites hearts.

D.M. Andrews (author) Andrews (dmandrews) | 1551 comments You can do what you wish with the money, but as for me I'm quite skeptical of conventional cancer research and medicine, and tend to be supportive of the alternative and independent side of things.

MacMillan nurses

message 878: by Andrew (new)

Andrew Lawston (andrewlawston) | 1774 comments I don't want to cause anyone any anguish, but I didn't sign up for a charity anthology. If I wanted to give money to a cancer charity, I would (and indeed I do, and my girlfriend has organised a MacMillan coffee morning thing and done the Race For Life in the last couple of months). I submitted a story for a book designed to support and promote the forum, and I'm not happy with the goalposts being shifted towards charitable giving, regardless of anyone's personal circumstances.

Sorry, I'm probably a dreadful person, but I feel I have to say this.

D.M. Andrews (author) Andrews (dmandrews) | 1551 comments Maybe the proceeds can go toward forum writing contest prizes, etc? That would generate growth.

message 880: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments As I said, under advisement.

The teeny amount of money raised by the last book has and will continue to go back into the group.

There are no plans to anything else with any money raised by this book.

Calm......

Kath | 1233 comments D.M. Andrews (GoodReads Author) wrote: "Maybe the proceeds can go toward forum writing contest prizes, etc? That would generate growth."

um... not necessarily writing prizes - we aint all authors here you know... we do run lots of competitions quite regularly and i believe that the money we raise is usually earmarked to that stuff...

Andrew wrote: "I don't want to cause anyone any anguish, but I didn't sign up for a charity anthology. If I wanted to give money to a cancer charity, I would (and indeed I do, and my girlfriend has organised a Ma..."

i'd have to agree with you there.

message 882: by A.L. (new)

A.L. Butcher (alb2012) | 1608 comments That is fine, it was just a suggestion;)

We could always do a charity one seperately.

message 883: by D.M. Andrews (author) (last edited Sep 28, 2012 05:41AM) (new)

D.M. Andrews (author) Andrews (dmandrews) | 1551 comments Yes, but now that my name is associated with the anthology, sales will clearly be different from last time...

*cough* *splutter*

message 884: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Nosedive eh Darren?

I think, having already stated that the proceeds go to the group, we need to stick to that. Authors have sent work in with that at the back of their minds.

When (listen to the woman!) we do another, we can decide at that point whether we take another recipient of the proceeds?

message 886: by Elle (new)

Elle (louiselesley) | 6579 comments i like it how it funds our awesome quizzes and that members of the group are very willing to run them. i love you guys <3

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments We love you too Peanut!

Speaking of which, I mentioned a competition idea I had to Simon and he's not got back to me yet! Sheesh!

So, what's new?

message 890: by Rosen (last edited Sep 28, 2012 08:44AM) (new)

Rosen Trevithick (rosentrevithick) | 2272 comments There is no doubt that the book will support and promote the forum whatever happens to the proceeds.

The book's readers will discover new authors from this forum. The book itself is an advertisement for the forum which may bring readers here. Authors may take a firmer interest in the forum if they think there will be future books.

I once mentioned an idea to Patti who mentioned it to Simon and that was the last I heard of it.

Can't remember what it was now.

message 892: by [deleted user] (new)

Just been catching up with this thread - can't wait to buy the book! Sounds fantastic!

:0)

message 893: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Patti and I are rading it through right now Karen - it's delightful - in many different wasy!

D.M. Andrews (author) Andrews (dmandrews) | 1551 comments It's going to be tough to write reviews for it ;)

message 895: by Kath (new)

Kath | 1233 comments well... i bagsie the phrase "an eclectic mix" for mine ;)

message 896: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Trouble is, a lot of the serial reviewers (like me) are involved. It'll be tough GETTING reviews!

(You can have 'eclectic' if Jonathan will rent it out to you Kath!)

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments Since at this stage I won't be in it (unless I have a flood of inspiration in the next ...day!) I can review it.

message 898: by Kath (new)

Kath | 1233 comments oh bugger... jonathan can have eclectic back cos i cant review it either :(
