A.L. Butcher (alb2012) | 1608 comments Hahaha.
I have a question being new to this. Do we all get listed as authors or do we have to request our names to be added on Amazon?

message 752: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Amazon allow 10 authors, that's all. There will be many more on this. I was thinking of asking Darren (who'll be uploading it) to pick 10 from a hat. Then if Amazon will allow you to add it - can't see why not - you can request that they put it on your author page.

A.L. Butcher (alb2012) | 1608 comments Ah Ok:) Fair enough.

message 754: by D.M. Andrews (author) (last edited Sep 21, 2012 12:44PM) (new)

D.M. Andrews (author) Andrews (dmandrews) | 1551 comments I think we should choose a fair way to list the authors: the first ten alphabetical by surname.

*whistles innocently*

message 755: by Jonathan (new)

Jonathan Hill | 1599 comments That sounds fair. I'm off to get my name officially changed to Jonathan Aardvark...

message 756: by Rosen (new)

Rosen Trevithick (rosentrevithick) | 2272 comments Maybe the ten with the most words?

message 757: by Rosen (new)

Rosen Trevithick (rosentrevithick) | 2272 comments Or the biggest names (Trevithick is TEN letters...)

message 758: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21809 comments From getting us some sales point of view, the best known writers ought to get a mention.
Also those with the biggest contributions ought to be considered.
As someone who fits neither category, I'm reasonably unbiased in this.

message 759: by Darren (new)

Darren Humphries (darrenhf) | 6903 comments Last time around, I looked at which authors had the highest ranked books and they were the ones that went in, simply because that gave us the most coverage. I am happy to do it another way and I am happy for my name not to be used if someone else really wants it.

The only name that WILL go on it no matter what happens is Ignite's as editor and there will be no argument with that (Yes, I'm looking at you Ignite).

D.M. Andrews (author) Andrews (dmandrews) | 1551 comments All the author names can be put in the book description, of course ;)

message 761: by Rosen (new)

Rosen Trevithick (rosentrevithick) | 2272 comments I just wrote my contribution. Was getting a little worried because the deadline was approaching and I had nothing I was happy the share. I hope I still like tonight's idea in the morning.

Daft wazzock.

You're putting all the effort into formatting the thing. Your name is going on it.

Sheesh.

Darren Humphries (darrenhf) | 6903 comments D.M. Andrews (GoodReads Author) wrote: "All the author names can be put in the book description, of course ;)"

Which is of course absolutely true and I'm glad that someone had their thinking hat on.

message 764: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments True, Darren and Darren. I will make sure everryone's name goes in the description but for sales purposes, rankings are probably the way to go. I'm still happy to leave it to Darren H. He's far more sensible than he'd like anyone to know!

message 765: by Andrew (new)

Andrew Lawston (andrewlawston) | 1774 comments Rankings are a sensible and impersonal basis to select people. The few people who might be interested in a new short story from me will hear about it through my own promo efforts on Facebook, Twitter, Drunk Writer and here. Writers with a decent fanbase can attract casual punters in a way that newbies like myself could never expect :)

D.M. Andrews (author) Andrews (dmandrews) | 1551 comments I am open to that: authors officially linked to the book being the ones with the best ability to attract buyers (i.e. best sales rank).

message 767: by Rosen (new)

Rosen Trevithick (rosentrevithick) | 2272 comments Are authors ranked?????
I knew our books were...

Simon (Highwayman) (highwayman) | 4276 comments I think the ten authors who donate the most to my charity for distressed alcoholics should get put on.

message 769: by Marc (new)

Marc Nash (sulci) | 4313 comments Simon (Highwayman) wrote: "I think the ten authors who donate the most to my charity for distressed alcoholics should get put on."

I've already given, but it was under a pseudonym so you might not have picked it up yet

D.M. Andrews (author) Andrews (dmandrews) | 1551 comments we could all type our names into google (inside double speech marks, of course) and see who comes out with the most number of results :)

Simon (Highwayman) (highwayman) | 4276 comments D.M. Andrews (GoodReads Author) wrote: "we could all type our names into google (inside double speech marks, of course) and see who comes out with the most number of results :)"

OK.

Ignite, I will use my real name of 'Rebecca Black' for my contribution. (96,900,000)

D.M. Andrews (author) Andrews (dmandrews) | 1551 comments author names only!

:)

Simon (Highwayman) (highwayman) | 4276 comments Interestingly enough with just a single letter change our editor manages 82,700,000

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments I only get 617. The first time I googled myself, years ago, I achieved a googlewhack...

message 775: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Googling yourself sounds like a closet perversion!
My real name happens to be very close to a new member of the Royal Family. There, the resemblance ends!

Simon (Highwayman) (highwayman) | 4276 comments Ignite, you could make a few bob from those holiday snaps.

D.M. Andrews (author) Andrews (dmandrews) | 1551 comments I had a go with google
but it didn't prove very frugal
so I tried Amazon instead
but that was just dead,
maybe next time I'll just try a bugle...

Rosen Trevithick (rosentrevithick) | 2272 comments Simon (Highwayman) wrote: "Interestingly enough with just a single letter change our editor manages 82,700,000"

There have been comments about my book having a quote by K. Middleton on the back.

message 779: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Ah, but it didn't say HRH, Rosen (unless it WAS her?)

Simon, if I sunbathed topless, there'd be complaints that whatever I was wearing needed ironing!

Simon (Highwayman) (highwayman) | 4276 comments I am giggling in the pub Ignite. Everyone is looking at me but I doubt if an explanation would help.

message 781: by Rosen (new)

Rosen Trevithick (rosentrevithick) | 2272 comments Ignite wrote: "Ah, but it didn't say HRH, Rosen (unless it WAS her?)"

Well, HRH gave me a quote, but yours was put better.

message 782: by Kath (last edited Sep 23, 2012 11:17AM) (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments I've just added a few recent stories and we are now standing at just under 62,000 words. We have 39 items, 10 of which are poems. Contributors so far are (in no particular order becasue I can't be bothered alphabeticalising them right this minute!)-

Darren Humphries
Tim Arnot
Will MacMillan Jones
Michael Brookes
Harry Nicholson
Vic Heaney
Ron (RJ) Askew
Andrew Lawston
Jenny Shaw
Mel Comley
Mark Faulkner
Kath Brinck
Ian Ellis
Robert Franks
DD Chant
Jim Webster
Andrew Barrett
Alexandra Butcher
Marc Nash
M T McGuire
Raymond Daley
Jonathan Hill
Cornelius Harker
Lexie Conyngham
Stephen Livingston
Kath Middleton (not HRH, the other one)
Simon Turpin (or is he...?)

If you think you've sent me something and you're not there, yell out. Loudly, I'm getting on a bit!

I'll take final submissions during the week but I'd like to get it all re-read and sent to Darren by the beginning of October. I don't want to run into his Na-No-Thingie in November.

(It's dead good this - I've read it!)

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments That looks a FABULOUS selection Ignite!

message 784: by Jonathan (new)

Jonathan Hill | 1599 comments Thanks, Ignite, can't wait to read it all!

message 785: by Michael (new)

Michael Brookes (technohippy) Good work Ignite, it must have taken quite some organising :-)

message 786: by Mark (new)

Mark Faulkner (markrfaulkner) | 464 comments Looking forward to reading it.
Thank you for your work on it.

Pat () | -245 comments Whoopie! sounds good as I know it will be. Can't wait for it to come out.

Simon (Highwayman) (highwayman) | 4276 comments I'm feeling a bit inadequate in a list of proper authors.

i was thinking that too...

message 790: by M.T. (new)

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments YO! If you need another poem I can send you one and there is a very outside chance there might be a short story in the offing but I'm afraid it looks as if it's going to be the beginning of another novel so that's probably not a good idea. Sigh.

Are you prepared to give us a link by our name - either at the end of our story or on the list of contributors... or preferably both? I am sure I'm not the only contributor who would like that.

Ranking for the associated names sounds like a plan as well. I can tell you, for deffo, that I only have 5 'fans' if I can loosely call them those and two of them are Ignite and Gingerlily! Mwah ha ha haargh!

That said, if it's OK for me or any other more obscure authors on your list (if there are any) to plug it on our blogs and twitter feeds and stuff in an unofficial capacity would that be OK?

Cheers

MTM

Simon (Highwayman) (highwayman) | 4276 comments I think we will be begging everyone to plug it on blogs/twits/faces and any other place (even telephone boxes if possible).

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Well wowiewow wow!

What a great book!!!!

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Oh the linkie things would be a question for Darren.

D.M. Andrews (author) Andrews (dmandrews) | 1551 comments So many deadlines. Hmm.. tax return or GR submission?

Hopefully I will have some time on Tuesday to start writing something!

That shouldn't be a problem.

Tax returns due a whole month away! No contest, get writing :)

message 797: by Kath (last edited Sep 23, 2012 08:16AM) (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments I'm putting everyone's name under the title of their story/poem and I'll add their blog/website address at the end. At the end of the blurb I'll list all the authors - will engage brain and alphabetise them.

Simon and Kath, I'm up there with you - I'm an 'improper' writer myself.

Edit - and yes, MTM, plug away (when it's published!)

message 798: by Jonathan (new)

Jonathan Hill | 1599 comments I'll plug away too when it's out. Very proud to be in a goodreads publication! :)

D.M. Andrews (author) Andrews (dmandrews) | 1551 comments I'm toying around with the title "I wrote all the stories in this ebook (under pen names)" for my piece...

message 800: by David (new)

David Wailing | 834 comments Some of us are still writing our contribution... that list is going to be longer!
