Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments Maybe we should try for the Bulwer-Lytton Award...

message 602: by Michael (new)

Michael Brookes (technohippy) I've not attempted a sex scene yet, none of my stories have needed one. Maybe I'm just avoiding the subject :-)

message 603: by A.L. (new)

A.L. Butcher (alb2012) | 1608 comments I have lots of smut scenes kicking around which I probably never use for anything else;)

They aren't as difficult to write as you think.

message 604: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Kumquat.

Now THAT'S a word.

Smut is good, Alexandra!

message 605: by Andrew (new)

Andrew Lawston (andrewlawston) | 1774 comments Up to 45,000 words? That's brilliant, a good hefty volume. Really looking forward to it hitting Amazon!

message 606: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Does anyone apart from David thoroughly dislike the title? I'm open to offers! I mean, negotiation :)

D.M. Andrews (author) Andrews (dmandrews) | 1551 comments Right, might get some time this next week or two to write something.

But still no clear idea on the matter :(

message 608: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments I shall live in hopes, Darren. ;)

message 609: by Rosen (new)

Rosen Trevithick (rosentrevithick) | 2272 comments I don't know what the title means, if that's any help.

message 610: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments A salmagundi is a mixed salad (or rather, was!). It was intended to give the impression of variety. If we use it, it will be explained in the blurb - by which time, it might be too late?

message 611: by M.A. (new)

M.A. Comley (melcom) Doesn't exactly roll off the tongue, does it? :-(

message 612: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments ok. Other suggestions?

message 613: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments We may as well have something we all like.

D.M. Andrews (author) Andrews (dmandrews) | 1551 comments Well, I've said it before but:

"A Collection of Works by D.M. Andrews and Other Authors"

*grin*

message 615: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments I said 'We all like,' I felt my lips move! Anyway, we haven't got one from him yet!

message 616: by David (new)

David Wailing | 834 comments How about: 'Hotchpotch'

D.M. Andrews (author) Andrews (dmandrews) | 1551 comments No, he's a lazy so-and-so...

;)

message 618: by Jonathan (new)

Jonathan Hill | 1599 comments Thanks, Kath, looking forward to the final product. Thanks for all your input.

message 619: by Jonathan (new)

Jonathan Hill | 1599 comments Hotchpotch is ok but does it suggest it has been thrown together without real thought?

message 620: by Jonathan (new)

Jonathan Hill | 1599 comments I like A Splendid Salmagundi but I guess it could turn people away if they don't know what it is immediately.
Right, I'll get my alliterative head on now...

message 621: by Jonathan (new)

Jonathan Hill | 1599 comments A Veritable Variety?

The Spice of Life?

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments A Marvelous Mulligatawny

A Bountiful Bouilleabasse

(don't know if I spelt them right)

message 623: by Jonathan (last edited Sep 11, 2012 10:33AM) (new)

Jonathan Hill | 1599 comments GIngerlily, I think you spelt 'A' right.
Are we having a food / cooking link?

A Candid Casserole?

message 624: by Jonathan (new)

Jonathan Hill | 1599 comments A Marvellous Melange?
OK, I'll stop cluttering up the thread now.

message 625: by Darren (new)

Darren Humphries (darrenhf) | 6903 comments Stick with Solomon Grundy. We stand against the dumbing down of liter... books!

message 626: by A.L. (new)

A.L. Butcher (alb2012) | 1608 comments Na I dont like the salmagundi thing.
I think the Spice of Life is good. I just think it doesn't exactly role off the tongue.

How about A Mixed Bag of Goodies.
Or just a mixed bag.

Lucky Dip

Although that sounds a bit... dodgy unless that is just me that sees the innuendo in that.

message 627: by Jonathan (new)

Jonathan Hill | 1599 comments Don't we want to suggest that all the stories will be great?
A mixed bag or lucky dip might imply some downloaders will get rubbish!!

message 628: by Jonathan (new)

Jonathan Hill | 1599 comments Alexandra, I like the goodies thing.

Could we link that with goodreads somehow?

message 629: by Jonathan (new)

Jonathan Hill | 1599 comments Ignite, you may have a war on your hands. You may just have to do what dictators do best...

message 630: by A.L. (new)

A.L. Butcher (alb2012) | 1608 comments A bag of Goodreads?

"A gaggle of goodreads?"

A mixed bag of short stories and poems buy the goodreads authors.

message 631: by Elle (new)

Elle (louiselesley) | 6579 comments I wanna be horrible and say screw it if you don't like it.

It's meant to be for us, not for others to understand so as long as we get it, who cares?

message 632: by Jonathan (new)

Jonathan Hill | 1599 comments I have to say A Splendid Salmagundi is growing on me. I guess we have to decide whether the title will put off readers or not. Yes, it's for goodreads folk but isn't the idea to get sales too? Do we think an obscure title will reduce sales? I'm not so sure.
Looking forward to reading everyone's entries in the book!

message 633: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21809 comments Amazon already have well over a dozen books entitled 'the spice of life' so I don't think the world needs another.
I'd say stick with A Splendid Salmagundi. What if people don't know what the title means. If they've got anything about them, they're more likely to look to find out.
If they haven't got the get up and go to check the book out, you're probably going to have to title it something like 'A long book with porn on pages 14, 15, and 84' to save them having to wade through the long words to find the bits they want :-))

Simon (Highwayman) (highwayman) | 4276 comments Fifty shades of fiction.

Sales have never, ever been a goal for us. It's our book, our love and if we only got the sales from each member of our group, I think we'd be chuffed.

This book is shamelessly selfish.

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Simon (Highwayman) wrote: "Fifty shades of fiction."

You do make me smile, young man. :)

Although, I'd be very surprised if no one hasn't used it already.

For what it's worth, I agree with Darren. Let's not change the title simply to cater to those who want life fed to them at a second grade level. Or year three. Or primary four.
International schools are fun. So many terms to know...

Anyway. That's my two pence. Cents. Kopeks. Whatever.

message 637: by M.T. (new)

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments What about Goodreads Group Goodies.... or does that sound like an invitation to a dogging session?

Cheers

MTM

message 638: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Well, I dropped in the suggestion that we come up with other ideas and then beggared off for an evening out - my sister's brithday - I haven't got you all on Ignore!
The name isn't set in stone yet - keep suggesting if you have any more ideas.

message 639: by M.A. (new)

M.A. Comley (melcom) I was thinking something Menage... oops, I mean Melange! lol

message 640: by M.A. (new)

M.A. Comley (melcom) Actually looking back on suggestions, Simon might have something. We could jump on the runaway train that is Fifty Shades. :-)

message 641: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Amongst the original suggestions was A Magnificent Melange but Rosemary (I think) suggested A Splendid Salmagundi and people (at the time) went for that. I think it has an air of Victorian Gentlemen's Magazine about it.

Jay-me (Janet) | 3784 comments Ignite wrote: "Amongst the original suggestions was A Magnificent Melange but Rosemary (I think) suggested A Splendid Salmagundi and people (at the time) went for that. I think it has an air of Victorian Gentlem..."

I like the original suggestion as it follows on with the previous book title.

message 643: by A.L. (new)

A.L. Butcher (alb2012) | 1608 comments Well I have seen, Fifty shades of blue, fifty shades of beige, 50 shades of grey and zombies and someone told me there is a 50 shades of minge.

Well I don't mind especially. I am not over fond of Splendid Salmagundi but it isn't up to me so will go with the majority.

That's the equivalent of pulling the pin out of the grenade, throwing it and running in the opposite direction. ;)

message 645: by Darren (new)

Darren Humphries (darrenhf) | 6903 comments Book lovers shouldn't be afraid of words. The title as is reflects what the group is all about if you ask me (which nobody did, but I said it anyway).

message 646: by Marc (new)

Marc Nash (sulci) | 4313 comments as much as I love words, I know from bitter experience the title is key and I feel Splendid Salmagundi is just a bit too obscure and perhaps also a bit too knowingly so to invite people to consider buying/reading the book

message 647: by Elle (new)

Elle (louiselesley) | 6579 comments Darren wrote: "Book lovers shouldn't be afraid of words. The title as is reflects what the group is all about if you ask me (which nobody did, but I said it anyway)."

But it ain't about other people!

message 649: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments How about Good Reads?
Succinct. Says what it is. Not clever, knowing or hard to understand?

message 650: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Boring.

We are all about clever, knowing and deep!

We could do a poll or go with our editor's decision.

And before that starts another debate, Ignite, what would you feel most comfortable with?

Reading through the comments so far in the thread, I think the majority like keeping Salmagundi...
